Had Lapis Manalis today, with Sprout first-time healer. He got killed by the last 2 bosses and I was left as WAR to heal the DPS, usually ending up with one or none on the second boss... if I was a PLD... But also as we just did go through and did not wipe as DPS lasted long enough to burn the boss down it was chill, especially calming the Sprout down

At any rate I feel like a lot of things the role's lost over the years was more due to bad experiences with a healer player as opposed to having a rough time playing healer, and the funny thing is that doing so didn't seem to have fixed the problem. Possibly made it worse even.

The constant removal of any and all things that require any sort of brainpower on healers is exactly why the healer quality is so low.

They can't just design something that you can pick up and master in 30 minutes and expect people to stick with it long-term.

It's very likely that the only people who actually enjoy healing are the people who struggle with it. The moment anyone masters healing, they'll immediately see how unfulfilling the role is.

Don't worry in DT they'll learn to Esuna through the role quests. Only takes until level 92 for this to become a thing healers are forced to learn.

You can esuna a strong poison in the M3 normal raid. It's helpful and better than trying to regen over it.

But again it's requires someone getting hit.

I miss the old ARR and HW type fights where random people getting debuffs was the mechanic, rather than an icon of shame for failing one.

Yeah, this bugs me to no end. They make the entire role quest about Esuna and then...I can't think of a single instance of needing to Esuna something. Granted, I only play healer when asked to when doing roulettes with my FC mates, but still.

They seem to be moving in the direction of esuna Is a way to give healers agency via offering them a choice on how to rectify a mistake by another player that gives a debuff

Ie- can I solve this by simply using oGCD’s to cover the debuffs effects or do I want to play it safe and use esuna so they aren’t at risk of dying

I don’t actually mind this approach but it has the fatal flaw of the fact that dungeons hit so little that 99 times out of 100 it’s never worth giving up a GCD for esuna unless the debuff is doom or a long slow. DOT’s can just be ignored and anything like silence of pacification drops off faster than you can use esuna anyway

I’m totally fine with esuna being the “choice oh how to fix party mistakes” but they have to actually make the debuffs damaging to the party success rate for it to feel meaningful
