Saying the healer role would always be the one with shortage is such an odd statement to me. I remember there was a period in my limited time of playing AION where healer (Priest) numbers was fairly abundant there were more people looking for DPS classes.

Obviously that’s just an anecdote from my part and situation must’ve been different at the time, but still… lol.

Well, I played Aion for over 10 years, and clerics - healers- were one of the most played classes (jobs), and one of the most effective, when geared properly, both for healing and for DPS in both PvE and PvP.

People enjoy actually healing, it is why any healers that join the game end up leaving or dropping the role around stormblood. Healer mains in MMOs want to HEAL. I am one of those that dropped the role and went warrior. Because healing sucks and healing in this was designed by a moron.

I don't think you even read my post before you ended up repeating the same statements you posted numerous times in this thread and others. In the game and referred to - as well as other MMOs I could cite- yes healer mains liked to heal, however they also had other options. The game may have had job trees/ specs- whatever. It allowed healers to change their skills , whether for party or solo content, so that healers could actually be useful and have fun.

By the way, care to explain how you even came up with "it is why any healers that join the game end up leaving or dropping the role around stormblood"? The only way I can even begin to understand that is that it must be your own personal definition of a "healer", because that makes no sense whatsoever, it clearly means that the rest of us aren't really healers, right?

Talking with people on reddit, at FFTCG tournaments that said they played then quit, also when I have talked to other healers on WoW, ET, and other MMOs who said they tried FF14 but left. Just chat with people who don't currently playing you can find people who used to play this and left. People dropped this game for varying reasons but the healer problem came up quite a bit. Just talk to people.

Well, I would think the majority of people in this thread wouldn't disagree with you, and I would hope that my earlier comment wasn't too abrupt. We could disagree on why people leave, or even at what point they do, however I do feel that the healer population is being maintained more by a higher proportion of newcomers and alts than it used to be.

I dropped healing mostly around Shadowbringers and consider Stormblood a high-point of this game when it comes to healing. I don't know where you got the idea that healer mains would drop this game in Stormblood since at that point healers outnumbered tanks, nowadays it's reversed and tanks outnumber healers (according to lucky bancho).

If new healers around Stormblood expected near full healing uptime and were disappointed that they were expected to contribute damage, that's fair enough, but we still had a healthy healer population at that point and was just a different style compared to other games. Stormblood just had a healthier ratio of damage to healing compared to now. Either way I think healing in this game wouldn't cater to those who only want to heal, as much as Yoshi-p wants to insist that such a playstyle is viable, simply because of the way our kits work and how much incoming damage (or lack thereof) we need to handle.

Unless you mean they drop the game around Stormblood MSQ and not when Stormblood the expansion was recent, in which case ignore me, I agree.

Healing in this game is better suited to a hybrid model where we balance damage and healing, that's more or less how it worked since ARR and the ShB kits have highlighted just how little healing we realistically need compared to the amount of time we spend damaging.
