I don't know what is up with scholar's gear. There are a few good pieces, but I've seen plenty of academic bada**es in media and somehow the job gear fumbles it.
Out of the 4 healers, SCH might be the hardest to show as 'cool'. They already had Expedient's visuals being an issue after all. It's definitely possible, but would take more design effort than the others. I'd say WHM is the best candidate, due to several factors, including 'ease of making look cool', 'none of the Scions currently main it', and 'its THE Final Fantasy Healer'

I agree. Whenever I make a scholar glam, I might grab one or two pieces of the job gear then have to switch out everything else to look like an adventurer. Who the hell wears a mortarboard outside of graduation?

I think some combination of the SCH throwing out attacks, throwing down Sacred Soil (bonus points if it 'blocks' a projectile, ie the projectile explodes on contact with the bubble, not the characters within), and the fairy darting to and fro to heal people, could work. I think the main thing they'd need to emphasize is the idea of 'SCH is a barrier healer, and when you play it 'well', you can literally negate enemy attacks'
Maybe some quick-cuts between closeups of the WOL (shoulders down, not showing their face until the end to reveal 'oh the SCH was the WOL the whole time) where they're giving out orders/tactics for the other combatants to follow, and battlefield scenes where the other combatants are executing the orders given (and it's a very onesided fight in their favour, because the WOL's tactical decisions are so on point) mixed in too
edit: the 'reveal' shot can be that a projectile 'hits' the SCH, and when the smoke clears, the hexagons from an Adlo fall to the floor as if they are solid objects (like panes of glass) and we see 'oh it was the WOL and he Adlo'd himself in the nick of time'. Also, ideally the WOL has like, zero reaction to the projectile/explosion, because we're emphasizing the 'tactical mastery' element of SCH, and so 'the enemy tried to attack the healer' is a variable the WOL had already considered and factored into the strategy. It was 'all according to keikaku', as they say

Oh, I don't know. I like the level 50 stuff. As a long time fan of the original Final Fantasy game, I was proud to earn those robes. But, I agree. A lot of it is just bad.
That's the kind of thing I was thinking of. It really isn't difficult to show a healer being heroic in the same way we see tanks and damage dealers portrayed. I thought Square did a great job showing off Alphinaud as a sage in Endwalker's trailer. We just need to see Square make the leap to using the WoL instead of one of the Scions.I think some combination of the SCH throwing out attacks, throwing down Sacred Soil (bonus points if it 'blocks' a projectile, ie the projectile explodes on contact with the bubble, not the characters within), and the fairy darting to and fro to heal people, could work. I honestly quite like the main body pieces of the WHM gear. DT’s set is the best full set yet. It has great brown leather accents to really hit the adventurer/explorer feel that a lot of the sets went with this expac. And the metal leaf headpiece is so nice, I wish I could use it on other classes.
Most of the AF gear is rather neutral, aside from the head pieces at least... Being about as masculine or feminine as a rather typical mage robe can be. The HW and EW ones being a little towards being feminine and SB one they actually gave male and female characters a completely different appearance...
And most other gear is just recolored caster gear...

thats something that CBU3 obviously hasnt clued into yet.Now I get to awkwardly feel like I was an accessory for murder because Square-Enix apparently was trying to appeal to me this entire time and yet it never took, which is precisely why I support any changes to make healers more appealing to those who *did* like the role once upon a time because, and this part is very important... I'M NOT GOING TO QUEUE AS THEM NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO. Hells, it's the same reason I feel bad about what happened to MNK and BLM. I didn't like playing them much before Dawntrail, liked playing them even *less* after Dawntrail, but for some reason Square-Enix thought my non-MNK/BLM main opinion mattered more than those who already liked those jobs. I had NIN and RDM, I didn't really *want* to main a different melee and caster DPS you guys.
all these mythical people they are trying to attract by dumbing down the jobs... has not happened. but hey, if they alienate enough people who used to like it... maybe they can dump the role completely... and somehow feel good about accomplishing something.
a majority of mmo people I have known over the years typically fall into groups... tanking... healing.. or dps. rarely they enjoy all three.... but usually is one of the three that they enjoy. CBU3 hasnt figured out that they cant FORCE people to enjoy something different (or at the very least... dumb them down enough to make people enjoy it)

Thing is, after dumbing it all down, you don't get very many people who play it because they enjoy it, you get far more people just tolerating it for the fast queues or obligation to friends.a majority of mmo people I have known over the years typically fall into groups... tanking... healing.. or dps. rarely they enjoy all three.... but usually is one of the three that they enjoy. CBU3 hasnt figured out that they cant FORCE people to enjoy something different (or at the very least... dumb them down enough to make people enjoy it)
They really should focus on the people who actually enjoy the role archetype instead of trying to smash the role into a shape that others enjoy while ignoring that the people who enjoyed the old shape are becoming increasingly unhappy.

Falls into the same issue as other jobs where it's artifact gear has to have the same general look for some reason. The savant set was the only diversion from it's academic mortarboard professor look.
I do like how it looks personally but it is exhausting that every single AF set for scholar is just a different variation of the same thing, it's even worse than WHM.
