ive played gw2 at high level raider as a scrapper healer since heart of thorns came out and old scrapper was a mess but i found it fun as a healer, i ran into elitist who didnt take me during raids because there were better healers, same in wow depending on the patch i couldn't get into random parties for mythic+ but when i made friends who just liked to hang out and knew i enjoyed the class i played they let me play it even if it wasn't meta. Having interesting job design and inbalance leads to a more engaging game but of course meta parse monkeys who will only recruit perfect vetted players but this can be countered easily by making friends and hanging out, no one will take phys range over two casters rn for pure damage but youd take your dancer or machinist friend because you like them. This is a problem you can fix by being social and having fun however a boring job designed game which is far more balanced then most mmos can't be fixed by making friends.
No matter what you will be a glare mage if you play whm.
Blue mage isn’t a real job because it literally cannot do anything even approaching current level content. Because it’s artificially capped at level 80. Terrible comparison.i love gw2 support dps split system but this is such a joke. really shows that every mmo system has their problems, though im sure gw2 will fix this eventually.
Though in the context of ff14 being roleless like Lann wants, Blue mage exists yet so many people refuse to play it because its not a "real job" yeah because its designed to be completely solo focused and multiplayer optional. Theres also FF11 another trintyless mmo but even for its time the lack of a trinty system is a turn off for a lot of people, i doubt ff14 would ever remove the trinty but if they did I doubt the class design would get any better.
Not really, its a solo job which is what he was asking for. Its a job where you can heal yourself, tank yourself and dps for yourself. Its exactly what he wants, a pure solo job.
If it was level 100 or level 10 it would be a fine comparision because thats how a solo job looks in this game and its something they can look at and see if thats what they really wants for this game, because in reality if they played it he probably would change their opinion. Even in co-op content as blue mage you have to eventually fall into trinity roles because having 4 jack of all trades at once is not viable in a role playing game. I am completely right in using it as an example of what they wish for the job design to look like because its literally what they asked for.
FFXIV need to evolve, there is not other choice but.... 1) A loud part of the community that always scream "don't touch this, don't touch that, don't remove this, don't remove that, don't modify this, don't modify that"... Even when it's about archaic gameplay mechanics that holding back the game and use threat against SE to keep it their way.
2) SE don't have the courage to say "Shut up we will still do it" at this loud minority.
Until one of thoses problems is fixed, FFXIV will stagnate
Honestly I'd rather have CBU3 to tell me to fuck off then pretend the game will come around to me. If they said "no we won't get rid of this burst design we like it because it makes our life easier." Then sure I can move on but breadcrumbing with 8.0 saying "we have gone too far" doing this will we won't we speak for how they'll design the game onwards is incredibly annoying.FFXIV need to evolve, there is not other choice but.... They really should just straight up and say "if you preferred the job design prior to ShB sorry this game isn't for you anymore."
agreed, its their game, they can do what they want with it. I dont care where they take it, but they could at least be honest as to where they are heading. ambiguous quotes of "we went to far" could mean literally anything. they want to dump the trinity and healers, then they should be up front with it.Honestly I'd rather have CBU3 to tell me to fuck off then pretend the game will come around to me. ??? A lot of feedback can be found here exactly because SE took things away without any feedback asking for such changes.FFXIV need to evolve, there is not other choice but.... There is 2 mains problems.

People say “don’t remove x” because square has shown over and over that if they remove x they will replace it with nothing and you’ll just have a less engaging rotation to compensateFFXIV need to evolve, there is not other choice but.... There is 2 mains problems.

It’s even happened this expansion, DRG got a rework that basically removed the eye mechanic off mirage dive and just replaced it with pressing geirskogul, now mirage dive does nothing at all and the rotation has become easier
MNK got its 2-2-3 rotation removed and basically replaced with “you have 6 buttons press which one lights up” and replaced that lost cadence complexity with nothing
AST got card complexity removed and traded it with random heal bloat the class doesn’t need
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
Since they have to balance DPS, healing should just be a function of that.
Make all damage skills passively heal the group. Give tanks taunt and mitigation... and give all mages and melee rezz. You can limit rezzes per battle if you want.
This game is about team jump rope and dps.... this way, as long as you don't hit the mechanics, passive healing will keep you up just fine, even if you miss one or two.
The devs want total control, and healing is suffering. Just ditch it, make it a derivative of something they are much better at balancing and call it a day. The current healing mages can become dps mages with distinct magic identities.
