Having interesting job design and inbalance leads to a more engaging game but of course meta parse monkeys who will only recruit perfect vetted players but this can be countered easily by making friends and hanging out, no one will take phys range over two casters rn for pure damage but youd take your dancer or machinist friend because you like them. This is a problem you can fix by being social and having fun however a boring job designed game which is far more balanced then most mmos can't be fixed by making friends.
No matter what you will be a glare mage if you play whm.
FFXIV need to evolve, there is not other choice but.... There is 2 mains problems.
1) A loud part of the community that always scream "don't touch this, don't touch that, don't remove this, don't remove that, don't modify this, don't modify that"... Even when it's about archaic gameplay mechanics that holding back the game and use threat against SE to keep it their way.
2) SE don't have the courage to say "Shut up we will still do it" at this loud minority.

Until one of thoses problems is fixed, FFXIV will stagnate
