I'd say based on what you wrote that it worked exceedingly well.
There needs to be a point where the devs just tell people to Get Good. They want content to be completed even if you have a party member dragging it down to avoid negativity, but like... this ain't it. We've got an entire role that's borderline not relevant for current endgame content because... reasons.

I'm all for being able to work your way through low-level dungeons without a healer, or a bad one. But after a certain point, it's not unreasonable to expect someone to have a decent amount of confidence and competence in their chosen role, enough that the minimal skill level is something above casting Medica II and fishing for Freecure.

I play with someone as tank who, thankfully, is more than happy to just stop mitigating and make me work to keep them up. It's all in good fun, we're friends, but they shouldn't have to do that.
