And I disagree that giving up on continuing the argument means there's inherently no merit to the case - there are only so many times both sides can repeat the exact same arguments without budging, and people are already remarking about how both sides are keeping on going.

It shouldn't have to be a staring match where both sides keep going until one gets tired and the other "wins". Especially over an internet argument about a feature that doesn't even exist.
I can disagree and still understand the opposing side. Up to a point. Changing what I see on my screen doesn't remove any control of your character from you. It's no different than if I was to turn off spell effects because I didn't care for the flashy-ness of them. Am I removing the developers ability to keep adding them or making them as flashy as they want? No.

As I said before on here, it's not about "winning", there's nothing to win. It's about expressing an idea or opinion and debating their merits.
