Actually it does, I've been doing some testing, because your pointing out of the wording made me second guess, but after using it multiple times, comparing potency of positional AE, as well as combo'd AE, and the addition damage from the second attack, it gives the same positional damage bonus as well as combo bonus, hell, multiple times the second hit was higher than the AE's initial hit.
