I honestly can’t think of a single way they could improve its “wonkiness” that’s not basically just removing an aspect of its designIt's got the best shot to actually get improvements because of how wonky it is right now. (still my favorite healer though all things considered)
Sage is still really new, Astro just got a rework, and White Mage's whole identity is being the baby healer.
I mean, we're not playing healers anyway. Especially if they ruin Scholar further, Right? (no pun intended.)
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

How about Fey Blessing, Whispering Dawn, and Fey Illumination being usable under Dissipation, just originating from the player, and perhaps having an additional effect like a shield, or boosted mitigation. Maybe even resetting the cooldown.
Excog could be manually detonated for a slightly reduced potency for the times where you need a heal to go out, but your target isn't below 50% health yet. (this happens pretty often with Dark Knights using TBN)
The faerie could go back to using Fey Blessing after it's done doing any of it's other skills. It could also start following you if you get too far from it after placing it somewhere specific instead of just peace-ing out.
Just off the top of my head, but I wouldn't say any of this would "fix" scholar per se. I know it's part of the difficulty to fully understand how your kit works, but it still feels really weird to run into one of these things. Maybe if they kept more of the way pets worked before that made some of these things actually make sense.

I don’t know if buffing dissipation any further would be remotely balanced, it’s already so powerful as it isHow about Fey Blessing, Whispering Dawn, and Fey Illumination being usable under Dissipation, just originating from the player, and perhaps having an additional effect like a shield, or boosted mitigation. To me the conflict in skills is a core part of SCH’s identity

I'm not sure I would consider that an improvement.
What you call clunk I consider friction within Scholar's kit that requires careful consideration, something rather rare nowadays.
Not having access to your fairy skills for 30 seconds means you can't just use Dissipation whenever you feel like it and instead have to pick a moment in any given fight where you can get away with it without negatively impacting the party or yourself.
But considering the current trajectory of removing every bit of friction from all jobs...Dissipation is absolutely on the chopping block.

I actually think dissipation is safe given that to the average “has literally no idea how to play SCH and thinks it’s a really weak WHM” Seraphism “feels” like it should be an upgrade skill for dissipation (even though they actually have totally different niches) and they had no problem introducing two more skill conflicts in SCH’s kit with dissipation/Seraphism and Seraphism/recitationI'm not sure I would consider that an improvement.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even notice the skill conflicts between those abilities.
It's no secret that they don't have a proper healer designer, so those skills were probably made by dps players who have no clue how to play Scholar either.
