They made less money than they do now.

Actually bc of SHB, they actually had the most popular MMO at the time going into EW and their yearly operating income was higher for the fiscal year than what they are on track to do this year, by a lot actually. Part of that is other flops in HD games now, but back then they specifically called out EW as delivering huge results for the entire company's bottom line.

I know the EW patch story story did some damage but I think it's no coincidence that EW was when two minute meta and job simplification really ramped up and changed the direction of the game.

And idk what anyone is waiting on because they're never going to tell you that, even if they know. This team won't comment on unsubbing for any reason. In fact they actively don't care if you sub. All you can really do is set your own expectations for job design.

What we can say for sure is that since post EW, the game has lost about 1m active payers. I don't think you can blame it all on any one job..but DRG isn't the only job people have issues with. I think it's naive to blame it all on one thing..the sub itself, the story, the patch cycle, combat, jobs. It all adds up. Death by a thousand cuts imo since this team as I said, clearly doesn't care, and can/will tolerate significantly more losses most likely and just blame players.

It's baffling really why they have such a unilateral strategy for jobs when they are quite literally obessessed with adding new ones.
