Having started in shb it's crazy to me to imagine that tank was once the role that nobody played to the point SE tried to bribe people with mounts.

Tanking is so braindead that I have to put netflix on in order to not fall asleep. The lack of aggro generation has been really fun for me the last few days, I actually feel alive! I have to actually not just turn off my brain and spam overpower as I run. For some reason they want to take away this little bit of engagement they inadvertently given us. I hate it.

You'd think that would have send a message a long time ago. While it doesn't tell SE what is wrong with the role (they can look at the healer subforum for that), it does clearly show something is wrong. For years.

They definitely know something is wrong. But they likely believe that it's because not enough people are willing to give healer a try.

Remember that "Please give healer a try." comment in the Q&A when someone pointed out the healer shortage in PF?

Why would anyone give healer a try when it is so braindead that a chimpanzee that is blindfolded could do it.

I think job changes to make jobs more appealing in the long term feel like a last resort from the devs because they would rather use any other means to get you to play a job in the short term instead. Like I'm tinfoil hatting but..

Satisfying gameplay? Can't have that, need to make something safe and inoffensive to anyone to maximize the amount of people who might play it.

Why make Tanks or Healers more interesting in the long term when you can make them so easy that DPS players will become Tanks and Healers to get in need bonuses and better queue times so other DPS players can not wait absurd amounts of time to get matched.

DPS players will come and defend their long queue times with all kinds of logic from having to cope with them for so long, it's just the way it is! And man, yeah, I do other stuff while I'm in queue. I use my Squadrons and Trusts. Etc. but I don't think that's a solution to an obvious imbalance of different roles. And neither is in need bonuses and swapping roles to get better queue times.

Like I think the roulettes system is genius at its core for incentivizing people to engage with all kinds of content for yummy rewards but I also think it's a subpar way to try and fix queue role ratio imbalance.

But dumber Healing and Tanking with no responsibility with in need rewards and instant queue times make number go up NOW even if it slowly trails back off due to unsatisfying gameplay, enough people who got sucked into trying it keep doing it so it must be working, even if we have to straight up abuse the game balance to keep doing it

Well yeah the role sucks.
Why would anyone willingly play healer lol or course the Devs have to beg people to play healer. Remember this is the same dev team that responded to "we heal too little can we please do more healing." With "go play ultimate lmfao."

I don't play very much anymore, but sometimes I'm leveling and training as black mage to see if I can like this.

But maybe SE just twisted that message into something completely backwards. Like: players must really hate playing healers, we better make sure healers have to heal as little as possible.

I have wondered if some things actually do get lost in translation, maybe even intentionally by whoever is summarizing feedback to YoshiP, considering the question asked in the Q&A that spawned the infamous "go play ultimates" line was a bit twisted out of shape when it made it to him (was able to find the links thanks to this thread).

Viper has been great, thank you for asking! The most memorable fight so far was in the last leveling dungeon when the healer and the other dps died when the 1st boss was at around 50%, I held on until 2% and the DRK finished it. Once I get through this MSQ slog and get to do more actual fighting I'll have even more fun with the job (at least until the patch).

I’m enjoying XIV the way Yoshi P intended: playing other games instead.

More specifically I’ve been playing GranBlue Fantasy: Relink and it’s pretty decent. Not my favorite but I’m enjoying it. You have two buttons for your basic combos that differ on each character and 4 cooldowns. I’m playing a healer and can set 1 cool down for my healing while my basic combos and other cooldowns go toward damage, so in 6 actions I have significantly more fun gameplay as a healer than in FFXIV despite having like 5 times as many actions.
