So far for me, she is just a much much worse version of Lyse. And the writing is cringe as hell in so many area's. Constant, we need to feel sorry for her, we need to "root for her" moments. I never felt this way about Lyse, I didnt mind her, but I could see the short comings people had.I disliked her seasick antics at first but this was more the story and writing trying to be funny and just ending feeling clumsy and slightly cringe than the character herself after I played a little more. I've gone through the first area (one of the first two) and I do actually appreciate her a lot. I do like what she represents, I do like that she has flaws but also strengths that nobody else has, and it offers good contrast. And that she is the best suited to be a leader because of her inner qualities and personality than all the other combined even though nobody can see it at first, and I do feel it promises a lot of good storytelling to come (but who knows, we'll see, i'm not that far yet).
But I mean, it's like Lyse right? People seemed to hate her, while I do think that she was a great character for so many reasons: she was the audience anchor asking all the questions the player would ask, naive, groomed to become a leader in spite of herself, fighting her past and constantly living in the shadows of her forebears (sister and father), and coming up right off the bat with very naive ideas and being quickly disillusioned because the world is just not black and white, and she had to slowly grow out of it. I feel a similar vibe from Wuk so far, and I do like it a lot. Those characters are a lot more 3 dimensional than all of the scions combined that never evolved much (except Alphinaud in ARR and Thancred in SHB maybe and that's where they were actually a lot more relatable).
Maybe its me getting older and consuming far more audio/physical books and getting good stories with good characters. And Lyse is just rose colored glasses now, but this character does nothing for me. I have actively started to hate Wuk. And the worst part, which feels like them just openly mocking me at this point. How we have had so many times during this build up asking us if we REALLY want to do this. Its like no, I don't want to help her, at all.
And not only that, I just feel like an NPC to Wuk. Its a total regression of the story, like we are back to being the side kick in 2.0.

OK do you want to know what's the difference between how Lyse was written and how Wuk is written?
The people in charge of writing for Stormblood were more subtle by comparison.
We technically did a lot for Lyse that we're asked to do for Wuk Lamat. The difference is it's 5x more forced. Like a version of our interaction with Lyse translated to the standards of an 8 year old child.
Dawntrail reads and looks like it was written by people with background on slice of life anime aimed to 12~14 year olds. Which makes sense since 6.1~6.5 also felt like a slice of life pre-teen comedy anime writer was trying to write an epic story.

Lyse was a victim of the writing. Both the ultimate pointlessness of the "not-Yda" reveal in the first place, but also just the nature of the SB story. So much of the SB MSQ was about losing and having to play catch up, that all of Lyse's losses are front and center while her victories are mostly off screen. We were told that she's a good leader but we rarely saw any on screen evidence of it, which lead to people to thinking she's worthless.

the thing is. all the scions (except alphinaud and alisae appearently) already have like at least 2 decades of life experience. they KNOW how the world works. mainly cuz they are schoalrs/fighters in eorzia.
eorzia IS a brutal place where people would literaly kill you over a simple argument or a sack of 1500 gil.
Wuk lamat is a Young adult (probably around the 18-20 range) has lived most her life as a royalty behind the city walls and knows absolutely nothing.
i can appreciate her shock or wonder in the things she learns. but the sheer level of naive behaviour and just sheer idiocy where sha can't even wrap her head around the fact the world has 13 reflections (or look alike worlds) is just stupid... even my youngest sister when she was 10 years old could understand this concept. gra'ha tia literaly explained it and she's just there with gaping mouth trying to understand even basic principles.
she's forced in too many cutscenes, with a mindset thats TOO MUCH vow of reason rather then Vow of resolve. and seriously... you'd think Goluul ja ja would have taught her about the very nation she lives in in the years she lvied but alas. he's indeed more a king/warrior then a father. i still like the guy tho. not so much wuk lamat.

I don't know were the notion comes from that she was sheltered.
She tells us herself in 6.55 that she goes out hunting.
In the beginning of DT we see people openly interact with her because she is the most approachable.
Its not like she was a disney princess that was never allowed to leave her castle.
The whole festival thing with the birds is also stupid.
Even as a child she should have been able to remember the greeting and I'm pretty sure those VanuVanu also did that in the city (all else would be stupid).
Galool JaJa had his faults as a father yes.
He had some serious favorism going on and the whole trial stuff was short sighted.
But he absolutely did not forbid his children to explore the continent and it's people.
Koana was even allowed to go to Sharlayan and Wuk Lamat was taken to festivals.
If anything his children were the ignorant ones.
Koana never bothering to learn the cultures of the people,
Zoraal Ja only being interested in fighting,
Wuk Lamat being a completely hypocrit with preaching peace and understanding but never having bothered to learn about her people.
One of them learned his erros, one of them died for his idiocy and the third one never changed at all and was succsessfull anyway.
She was just a badly written character. Not the fault of her father in my opinion.

okay while i agree on several of ur comments.
i never said she was a disney princess stuck in her castle. i mentioned things with the word MOSTLY or MOST.
she goes out hunting is fine and all but hunting is not meeting people or learning cultures. its literaly the locating and killing of a prey. wich most likely she did only with landsguard members or other hunters.
if she went out to talk to people so often then how is it she is so ignorant about their cultures and lifestyles? it just shows that she didn't do that to begin with. you cannot socialize with people and not learn jack shit about them unless you literaly aren't listening to what people have to say to you. people find her approachable because she is the only Promise that talks back. (and most of those who mentioned she is approachable are those IN tuliyollal and thus WITHIN the city walls)
yes i blame her father because if he wanted his children to take the throne he should have prepared them much better on what is required to be a dawnservant and not just tell them to go out and find out yourselves. its your job as a parent to prepare your kids for the harsh world outside the city walls. and he failed at that. he's a cool guy. but gulool ja ja isn't a great father when it comes to teaching his kids how fucked up the world really is. they just had to see for themselves.

That's what I'm saying. She went out and talked to people so why does she know nothing about them? Is she ignorant?
No, its because of bad writing. There is no deeper meaning besides that.
We absolutely do know that she did that, that she talked with people.
She knew the taco seller and the Mamool Ja next to him who also seleld food.
She knew the PeluPelu who crafted her axe.
When told at the beginning of the two guards that "they would like to keep coming to her and talk" she responded with "I wouldn't want to have it any other way because I love talking with my people" (in one form or another).
So she really actually interacted with her people before we arrived in DT otherwise they wouldn't be so lax about approaching her.
Yes Galool JaJa had a terrible aproach to the Dawnservant thing and made mistakes but no... the children not respecting the people and cultures are their own fault. These arent little children. They are short of adults.
They can and should think for themself even more so if tehy want to rule a country.
