Dawntrail was great. More like this, please!

Yoshi P always says the best way to give feedback is to leave a post on the forums, so I'm doing that for my first post here.

Dawntrail's MSQ was an absolutely fantastic all around experience to me. It was a very strong beginning to the next 10 years of FF 14 and I eagerly look forward to what's coming down the line
    • The MSQ itself was a wonderfully paced and very interesting experience. I loved the touring nature of the first half, and seeing so many of Tural's cultures and peoples and learning about them was so fascinating to me. No area stayed overlong as the focus and the movement between zones and plots was excellent.
    • The visual design and area design of everywhere was really great. So many varied landscapes and places, Tuliyollal has such a great appearance and layout, and the areas are all so distinct and picturesque to explore. Really makes me want to complete my sightseeing log this expac!
    • I'm extremely glad SE took the time and expense to get cultural rep consultants for this expansion. I hope they do so again in the future to keep XIV a welcoming and positive space for players and fans all over the glove.
    • The rite of succession storyline as a backdrop to all of this was a great way to drive the plot forward, and I really enjoyed seeing it develop, alongside....
    • WUK LAMAT IS SO GOOD. I love her personality, her character, her development! She really matured and grew into a capable and confident leader from her impulsive and hotheaded self, and it was such a delight watching her grow into somebody that was more than worthy to sit on the throne! Having the WoL in a mentor-like or side capacity was a fantastic way to do this expansion and I would love to see it return for future expansions if it suits the story!
    • I played with the English voices and I felt everyone was very well cast, especially Sena as Wuk Lamat! She brought such a character and charm to the role, and she really sold her to me in those emotional moments! The only weakness with her voice were a few spots that required more power or strength, such as the final trial, when I felt that her delivery lacked the power that the scene was portraying. To me that feels like more of an issue with her direction rather than the VA herself, though, but I want to reiterate that overall I think she did an amazing job and was a particular standout!

    • The combat experience was a true joy. I was a Warrior for MSQ and while I'm used to having to fully utilize my mitigations, I feel like the dungeons this time around really required it! The mechanical variety was really nice to see and I'm looking forward to the raids and tackling the EX trials.
    • The solo duties we got were very fun, especially Wuk vs Bakool Ja Ja. I would love to see more solo duties in future expansions and patches! I loved all the ones we had in Endwalker and would absolutely enjoy a return to the stealth-oriented one we had as Thancred.
    • Soken's music was fantastic, but all the tracks in the second half especially deserve praise, as well as the Tuliyollal themes.
    • The themes of this expansion were very on point and the plot spoke very well to them in both halves. Sphene in particular was very compelling to me, and the final zone especially brought me to tears several times. What a fantastic way to portray the process of grief and accepting the deaths of our loved ones, very much foreshadowed in the first half as well with the giants!
    • I liked that the scions were largely in a backseat or advisory capacity! I want to see more new characters take the spotlight again in future expansions, and while I understand we'll never truly leave them behind, I would be quite fine with them having even more reduced roles to allow for underused characters like Krile (prior to this expac, at least) to shine.

What an amazing experience. I cannot wait for the future patch content and I hope SE's philosophy on future expansions keeps all the highlights of this one.

I appreciated the cutscene direction. It seems like they've gotten better at framing shots and moving the camera and using cuts even in smaller moments. I feel like we used to just get a lot of A/B camera static shots during back and forth dialogue.

Didn't really feel much growth from Wuk other than that she learned some history.

Oh, I suppose I should also post my complaints:

    - Bakool Ja Ja's change was very sudden to me. It felt like we got very little lead up to it and an expansion that otherwise did a pretty large amount of signposting for character development, and while I understand his motivation was "win at all costs" (as I'm sure he was told to do by his father), his later characterization as a compassionate and seemingly rather smart guy are at odds with how he began. I would've appreciate glimpsing more of that person before the 95 sections!
    - The middle part in yeehaw territory wasn't my thing. That doesn't mean it was bad, per se, it just didn't really capture me and felt like filler so we could get Erenville more focused screen time. Take the comments of people who are fans of Western stuff more, as it just didn't really click with me.

That's all the ones I can think of for now.

I am giving this a 5/10. It's a decent effort and it may successfully bait some people. Let's see.

Bait or not, I agree with it to the letter. It’s interesting to see how forums always seem to be in direct opposition to what many of us experience in game. So far while in the game, I only met people delighted with the story, pacing and writing.

She also learned to like Alpacas, that traders like trading, and how to make tacos. Clearly the best character progression ever.
