A quick analysis of the wasted potential of the scions during Wuk’s Rite of successio

Hello all,
Here is something that I haven't seen much discussed before (or at least not from that point of view).

One of the thing that really bothered me during the whole first part of Dawntrail is the lack of use of the scions.

The first and most obvious thing is, of course, the actual lack of competition between them, contrary to what was initially advertised. If anything, we spend more time collaborating with Thancred and Urianger than act against each other.

But then come the scions that are with us : Alphinaud, Alisae and Krile. Why these 3 ? I actually quickly felt it would make a lot of sense because, if we take a quick look at Wuk and her quest to become the new ruler she is :

- Trying to keep various tribes united despite some conflicting opinions and tensions.
- An adopted child that doesn’t know her true parents
- Competing against her two brothers.

Ok, now, when we take a look at our crew we got :
- Alphi who tried to unite all the nations of Eorzea under one banner to fight against Garlemald with both successes and failures.
- Krile who is adopted and has no idea who her true parents are.
- Ali who had conflicts with her brother in the past despite chasing a similar goal.

So, the parallels are obvious. It’s perfect to both make Wuk grow as a person and to create some strong bonds with all of the scions that are with her.

Except none of this happens. Not once. She spends all her time with us, the WoL who, in retrospect, is maybe the less apt of the crew to mentor her, and to share things with her. The one person that is “silent” most of the time.

It’s a true waste of potential to :
-Truly develop Wuk as a character based on everything else we experienced before in the game
-Have an interesting reminder/summary of what actually happened in the game so far for newer players
-Further developing the scions that we’ve know for so long.

I think the only reason they threw Alphinaud and Alisaie in there is so we wouldn't feel too compelled to go join Thancred and Urianger with Koana. We'd be more likely to want to side with three scions than two.
It didn't work for everyone, as I'm sure you've seen though.
Hell, I knew exactly why Koana would be a bad leader, and I still wanted to side with him. Mostly to get away from Lamat, and partly because he'd be the easier one to make into a proper leader. He's got less wrong with him at the start.

When I played through 6.55 all I could think was- how very irresponsible for our WoL to support Wuk Lamat. We didn't even know the other contenders and after our first battle with her, it was clear how untested and immature she is. If I could have told her no, I would have. Even I would have chosen Koana in the end.

Also, they certainly left G'raha out as a potential mentor to either candidate- as a previous leader of a nation, he had a lot of potential in this story line. I don't understand why neither side really pushed for him to join them. He seemed like the most obvious choice.

As for Alisaie- I actually really loved her as a choice. She showed a fair bit of growth from when we first met her- not rushing in/holding Wuk Lamat back at one point. I really enjoyed seeing her in a more mature, mentor role.

I totally agree. I didn't like her from the moment we met her, and I sympathized immensely with Erenville in the 6.55 cutscenes with his clear intolerance toward her. It felt great having a visual representation in the game to the reactions I was having to what was going on.

I definitely would have preferred backing Koana as well. In fact, despite my qualms with the other two, I think every contender was far more interesting a character than ol' Wookie and if we had the same exact story just replacing Wuk with (any specified claimant), I daresay the section of the succession storyline of the MSQ would have been somewhat more enjoyable.

I hope the devs are paying close attention to the feedback the overwhelming majority seem to have in the posts and reviews on not only XIV focused spaces, but other gaming spaces from more casual players than us and will do what we all want and just quickly sweep that character under the rug.

The more I think about this the more it looks like such a huge plothole.

We went through so much and yet we don't even try to get some perspective of the whole situation in Tural before making an educated choice.
