Well, the healer role "design" does not match its playstyle and responsibilities already anyway, so the argument is pointless.
And dps players vastly outnumber healers, yet for healthy party fills 25% of total population should be willing to play them.
Originally healing was decently balanced with DPS on healersunfortunately we as a community not doing anything to really push back against green dps mindset. They are very much ruining it for everybody. They complain about needing to actually heal on a healer job because it will stop them from pressing glare for 10 minutes straight, so devs ignore actual healer player complains. And they ruin it for raiders by dpsing instead of healing (up in this forum there were raiders mentioning how average healer will dps and not heal raidwide)
but many of them complained that "it was hard"
so the DPS was dumped down.
with "stance dancing" healing jobs where pretty crazy, and you had to balance DPSing and healing.
Well, I think that's what we're trying to address here, right?
I'd argue that by making the role more role-appropriate and engaging to play people would be more willing to play it. Making it "mostly like DPS but worse" isn't attracting anyone. As it sits the only reason DPS players have to play the role are "It gets me quicker queues" or "We need a healer for [content] and I drew the short straw."

The role design and heavy focus on rdps scores does encourage that type of behavior. But at least most healers that post on the forums don't seem to hate the healing part of playing a healer. And if most of the stuff listed in the opening post of this thread is implemented, I assume many of the healers that hate healing will switch to a dps job. But going with your description of those people, that would be better for everyone. While I do agree that healers should be more engaging in easier content, which is a majority of the playtime for most of the playerbase, let's be real for a moment and acknowledge that a large chunk of healers actually hate having to heal and provide triage to unexpected damage. The only role that has moments where what it does is dynamic and dependent on the party and healers hate it.
The kind that would rather Glare more than to try to keep their party alive cause some may have taken an extra vuln stack. They want a dps rotation instead. "Swiftcast is on cooldown, this person can wait, I'll just keep doing damage", then the party dies cause that person was needed for a mechanic. Even casting Esuna becomes a major sticking point. P12S has one specific mechanic where healers have to cast Esuna to save the tanks and it became a meme that a tank will occasionally die there because the healers are too busy casting their damage spell. I still see people have to deal with the full 30 secs of Disease in LotA when the ash dragon from the first trash pack debuffs people so they walk at the speed of a snail to the next trash pack. Abyssos, where some healers would rather people drop dead instead casting a GCD heal to keep the party healthy, cause someone missed a mit and the raidwide + dot hit harder. "Vuln stacks only punishes healers, why do we have to deal with your incompetence?!" With that mindset, might as well take away raise from healers too and give them a DPS button in exchange right?
They shouldn't play healers to begin with. It's literally in the name.
Straw manThe only role that has moments where what it does is dynamic and dependent on the party and healers hate it.
In the world where healers are left with only 2 damage spells and you still get healers refuse to heal.Abyssos, where some healers would rather people drop dead instead casting a GCD heal to keep the party healthy, cause someone missed a mit and the raidwide + dot hit harder. "Vuln stacks only punishes healers, why do we have to deal with your incompetence?!" With that mindset, might as well take away raise from healers too and give them a DPS button in exchange right?
Doesn't that just prove taking damage buttons away from healers and adding new healing actions over the expansion still fails to make healers heal?

Gonna repost something i said in another thread, because i feel it's relevant here too.
Let's put dmg complexity and button aside for a moment and look at the core issue.
Every issue with [Healer] can all be indirectly and directly traced back to this:
The damage output in this game is way to LOW to sustain
the insane heals and self-sustaine that exist in this game.
Most dmg is avoidable-->becomes invalid!
How to solve this:
1. Damage needs to happen way more frequent during BOSS fight(s).
2. We need Random and Unavoidable dmg in the game!
This will make it so that even experienced groups, will take dmg.
Solutions (suggestions) :
- (30-40s) AOE DoTs on all players ( this will force healer to use their AoE healing more often ).
- Direct DMG that hits a random player(s). ( forces more spot healing).
- Have % based DMG ( on bosses) ( high ilvl/gear should not make the dmg invalid (in normal content)).
- Have bosses actually do damage to tanks outside just TBs - make auto hits hit harder.
What make [gameplay] boring is:
A.Repetiveness in movement/buttons
B.Predictable outcome(dmg patterns).
Sadly healers suffer from this in both; it's healing and dmg!
which is also why many find healer boring in ffxiv.
Adding randomness and surprises will go a long way.

That is very good to know for the future, thank you :O
I prolly won't edit this one cos I already said most all of what I wanted and I just barely cared enough to get this post out in the first place, but thanks for the heads-up o/
No I didn't I said there is barely any sweaty people beyond midcore savage raiders. You said
Which 100% implies that the healer changes people are asking for are not acceptable because it would be too hard to be "mainstream-friendly". So yes, you 100% said that.
I call you self-centered because you're going on a rampage that nothing needs to change, when obviously some people want change, and there are 4 healers that do not need to all play at the same level.
And neither did I say anything about not anything needing to change.
