I literally never heard "too angry to die" until this thread in 2024. Never heard it in game. And it is a piss poor defense of the nerf.
The phrase itself has existed for a long time; it's been a meme for the greater part of a decade that originated from outside the game and integrated into the community. I'm not responsible for your lack of awareness of the term 'too angry to die'.
It's a part of their lore as the Warrior's power source. They unleash a core fighting instinct hidden within creatures that grants immense resilience and the ability to ignore pain, including limiters their bodies have to protect integrity, in exchange for instability they have to learn to overcome. This instability is so chaotic that it can cause Warriors to continue killing even after all their enemies are all slain.

So let me correct you. It is not an 'ego trip by players', and your smug assertion so is ignorant. The concept of them shirking off wounds that would be hampering or even fatal is canon to the class and their meditative concept. It makes sense for a part of their identity to include healing. The mechanical representation of the inner beast would be shrugging off damage to fight onward.

You don't even have to dig up any lore books on FFXIV to learn this. It features prominently in the Warrior questline. If you give a damn, you should play it through and pay attention.

Wait hang on one last post because this is incredibly funny to me, what if they added a button to warrior that did a lot of damage to everything in the area. Mobs, the boss, and of course, party members. Give healers something to heal since they're so bent on not having anything to heal already.

Since Frenzied Berserkers in tabletop games are so hilarious I'd be all for it for my own groups, but I could definitely see how people would grief with it. It would be fun if Warriors had a cooldown to enter berserk ala other Final Fantasy titles, losing the ability to stop attacking or use mit/GCDs, gaining a regen, and attacking at double speed til it stops... but they turn and run at an ally if all the enemies die. I'd LOVE to watch a friend squeal in panic and run around a boss arena while my Warrior tank chases him for 10-15 seconds!

Warrior is clearly inspired by berserker/barbarian tropes. Those do, indeed, often contain some kind of "too angry to die" element. However, that's not what WAR does. If you wanted to fulfill that fantasy, they could have something like a passive that stacks on damage resistance the lower their HP gets (to a point), so that they would have a minigame of gambling just how low their HP can get and healers would be encouraged to think about how to manage their tank's HP as well.

Meanwhile, what you have is WAR taking away Paladin's role as "the tank who can heal the party" because WAR does it infinitely better.

This is something I would like to bring to the forefront regarding Warriors. It makes sense for them to self-heal and shrug off wounds really well, perhaps better than any other class, but their ability to heal others makes no sense in their lore. Their weakness should be a lack of support for others, since the core concept of their power is that it's almost entirely internal. Their only direct interaction with others when utilizing the inner beast is usually the Warrior beating them down, but just with more force and ferocious body language.

A tank healing others should probably be a Paladin's niche more than anything. I can even forgive Gunbreaker having some healing options for others, as in their lore they're gish bodyguards who used protective magick. Warriors healing others though is pretty damned dumb.

On a side note, it always interested me that the worst at sustain is the Dark Knight when in previous iterations of Final Fantasy they were full-on drain tanks.

We used to have theoretically infinite sustain through drains before it's rework. They took it away, and gave it to WAR. The difference back then is that you needed a pretty good Dark Knight to be able to balance the really high cost DA Abyssal Drains with the really high MP regen of blood weapon Quietus which were supplemented by blood from TBN breaks (or blood price if you wanted an easier, but slower method that could interrupted by holy spam). Like it took the entire kit, almost every skill in DRK's kit was needed to pull that off. Really high skill expression for dungeon content, honestly. If you screwed up, you wouldn't even have enough mana to use Unleash or turn on Grit. Risky, but satisfying, and really cool to watch.

Now WAR does that too, but it just presses Bloodwhetting and another CD if you're feeling like it and that's about it.

When they took away Blood Price and made Abyssal Drain a 60 sec CD recast shared with Carve and Spit it was a sad day for Dark Knights.

And prior to that Dark Arts Dark Dance and Dark Arts Dark Passenger for Dodge Tanking.

Alternating between TBN and BP + AD in dungeons was the most fun DRK would ever be.

Yeah, they tend to transplant a lot of our tools and job identity into Warrior.
