I don't know what the remaster is running on, but the original version started development soon after XI released. There's little information on the engine, but if you look at the games side by side on a ps2 its clear as day that its the same engine.
Well given that right up until Endwalker that was basically what FFXIV felt like to me, a game that was for the most part tailored to my tastes other than a few issues, I don't see why that's controversial. No expansion except this one has been plagued with as much writing and content issues. The sooner we go back to normal in 7.0 the better, though whether that's even possible at this point is anyone's guess.
When the game goes back to the quality we had in the past, then I will be happy to praise it as I did back then. Until then.

Cause this is highly subjective and every expansion has had groups of players saying stuff like this. Every expansion won't please everyone. That's just a fact of life and how things like personal tastes work.
Endwalker objectively has like no content. I don't think that can even be contested at this point. That's probably the biggest issue here.

This. Especially when it comes to the games writing and enjoyment, which is highly subjective.
Weird, would have sworn ranking up my Island, farming Pandæmonium and the Void story arc was content. Strange that!
Seriously though, whilst it fair to question the amount and type of content we get, I do find it a little unhealpful when people act as if the game has not been updated since 6.0. Just because it may not be content you personally like, does not mean its not there.
"ranking up my island" as content LMAOThis. Especially when it comes to the games writing and enjoyment, which is highly subjective.

2 new ranks that take what ? a day or two ? oh my god the crazy amount of content
spamming the same thing over and over again on the same difficulty, god what great content that is !
also lol @ story as content
Well I made somone laugh, thats somthing at least... ?
It's unfortunate because I love building things in games. When Island Sanctuary was first announced, details were very scarce and I hoped there would be a lot to see and do. Hidden caves, rare enemies to fight, treasure washing up on the beach every now and then...stuff like that.
Instead most of the 'content' involves navigating menus, clicking on things and generally just waiting around for things to happen. At least World of Warcraft tied garrisons to the other aspects of the game and you could make money through it and acquire a whole bunch of rewards.
I hope Yoshi-P takes a serious look at other MMO's and builder games because there's so much that FFXIV could be doing to make things more exciting and have more staying power.
I have no idea who thought spreadsheets as content was fun but I have no interest in that design philosophy moving forward.

This does feel a bit disingenuous though. A raid and MSQ chapters are not really anything new, as for IS, you might say that ranking it up is content (most people do that in like 3 weeks then enter maintenance mode) but to have this and Variant dungeons, a foray zone like Eureka or Bozja was given up, and those are zones that are still highly visited.
We got a deep dungeon this time around which is nice but this does feel a bit shallow.
