What grind? LOL I'm sorry, but.. I don't think you can even refer to this as an "attempt", let alone "casual grind".

I didn't mention relic weapons once in my post. They did not remove the entire concept of relic weapons. They've tried out different ideas for it every expansion. None of the relic grinds have been identical.
They likely felt that putting it behind Hildebrand was enough of a barrier this time around. And judging by the whining about it on the forums at the time, they might have had a point.
This relic grind is an attempt as a casual's grind. It involves doing a long side quest chain and then earning tomes from duties. I'm sure the next one will be an off-the-wall pvp idea or something, in Corvus probably.
There were many reasons to engage with Bozja-style content outside of relics.
Like, having fun.
Very few people are asking to be entertained 24/7. They already do play other games. They're already caught up on the MSQ's and side content. So they want something new to do that isn't repeating what they're tired of already.Yoshi P did not say "please quit my game", he said please take breaks to avoid burnout. he knows exactly what kind of schedule the release cycles are on and he knows there are lots of people who dont wanna wait 3-4 months between patches and that's okay. FFXIV was not designed with the idea that players will remain occupied for the entire 4 month cycle because it's not healthy for people to play the same thing nonstop all year long. the fact people are complaining about the devs prioritizing their own health, as well as the health of the players is just mind boggling.
There's nothing to suggest that the development team are priortising their own health or that of the players, either. It's an excellent form of emotional manipulation, though.
If it were true, they certainly wouldn't be stressing players out over the potential of losing a house if they dare to take a break longer than 45 days when the demolition timer is active - and competitors with housing systems in place do not strip their houses from players even if they're gone for months or even years at a time.
A long side-quest chain? It's only long if you're a new player coming in and have never touched the Hildebrand quests, in which case you're stuck doing two or three, maybe four if you're slow, hours of quests. If you've been around for any length of time, then it is instead a case of do like four quests and dip into your surplus of tomestones to near-instantly acquire a weapon.
I actually missed this. yeah because playing more than 10 minutes a week is so unhealthy, I'm sure this is so people dont go insane by logging in for 20 MINUTES, imagine if they had to log in 20 minutes a week, 100% they'd go insane, thank god yoshi P is here to help us stay saneYoshi P did not say "please quit my game", he said please take breaks to avoid burnout. he knows exactly what kind of schedule the release cycles are on and he knows there are lots of people who dont wanna wait 3-4 months between patches and that's okay. This is incorrect as far as health goes either. There is no difference between playing 10 games or 1 game every day healthwise. And for example in situations where people have a job, come home at 5, make dinner then maybe workout or do a few things and then sit to game a couple of hours every night because that is their daily routine I would hardly call that an unhealthy lifestyle. Yet, if you choose XIV as your MMO so that you don't have to go around game hopping all the time, since MMOs tend to be long commitments, well, as of right now you chose wrong. And you are spending 13$ a month for nothing since the content is short lived.Yoshi P did not say "please quit my game", he said please take breaks to avoid burnout. he knows exactly what kind of schedule the release cycles are on and he knows there are lots of people who dont wanna wait 3-4 months between patches and that's okay. And had the game always been like this then sure, it would be unreasonable to expect, however, the game hasn't always been like this and has always managed to get worse about it, time after time. So it stands to reason people would be upset that the game is making more and more money and instead of getting more and more content they get shafted.
Complaint topics have a cycle. Every so often somebody counters with "no game can entertain you 24/7" and that gets rebuffed by "we don't expect infinite, we just expect more than 3 days entertainment out of 4 months."
My thing is always voicing displeasure with the never-ending safe formula. There's almost never something so cool and unexpected that people want to rush to discuss positively. I want people to be super hyped for a new content model that looks like FF XIV going into a new era, uncharted territory.
We had a prime example of a hype features where it just resulted in people being discontent because of poor implementation. I mean well, we originally had this with Island Sanctuary prior to its addition alongside Variant/Criterion dungeons but they fail to deliver in the long run. I'm just hoping they seriously do invest into these since otherwise what was the point of it if its just gets quickly abandonned.Complaint topics have a cycle.
