I have to confess that I find it difficult to be disappointed with FFXIV.

I moved to FFXIV, upon the recommendation from a friend, from a F2P game which I'd played for over ten years. I gave up on said game when their content updates became more and more infrequent to the point where they were/are only producing one new episode, worth about 45 minutes of play time) every five or six months.
Of course they can't focus on producing new content as their business model revolves around convincing players to throw their credit cards at gambleboxes and super-expensive (£250) bundles of items. Which is ironic, as they're basically creating new items for players to use in the same old content, at great cost to the player.

In fact, said game is currently trying to generate hype with some nonsense promotional junk (which doesn't actually reveal anything about what is incoming) and expects players to get excited over ONE new episode (again, generally worth about 45 minutes of play time) and a new addition to their gamble box. And they genuinely think that adding new items to their sleazy* gambleboxes is new content.
And they're so paranoid about negative feedback that they only ever reveal the date of their content updates one week before it happens.

No, not really. At least, not in the context of what I saying. And you were VERY selective with what you quoted.

Granted FFXIV's content updates have slowed - but that seems to be due, at least in-part, to Devs working on FFXVI. And I think there have been at least two content drops in FFXIV in the time it took the game I used to play to produce a single, 45-minute long, episode.
Nor does FFXIV try to pass gambleboxes off as new content. In fact, the absence of gambleboxes is one of the elements of this game I love.

Furthermore, I can at least say that I know there is a new content drop coming later in the month, as SE advertises it well in advance. I also know that I won't be able to complete the sum total of that content drop in 45 minutes.

If FFXIV development truly slowed because of FFXVI, how's that fine in any shape or form? Is FFXIV second class citizen now? Are we finally going to get more attention now since 16's development is over, or will they again split resources to other games and leave us on the side of the road?

As for your example - is said game WoW/GW2/BDO or similar? Is it even MMORPG or are you comparing apples to trucks? If not, then it's irrelevant. If you really want to try to argue with individual examples, at least say what game it is, otherwise it just seems like you try to hide it, so the people who played that game cannot counter your argument.

As for your gamble boxes - you said it was f2p, so my question is, what do you expect? They give you 45 minutes of story twice a year for free and you complain? Here we pay 15$ a month, base game, cash shop bullshit, retainer subscription bullshit and app subscription bullshit. The fact that these things are optional is irrelevant, MTX in f2p is also technically optional. So after paying some 15$ bucks per month, we get 2 (two) hours of MSQ per 4.5 months and some content which dies in a 1 or 2 weeks. I don't know chief, your f2p game doesn't seem that bad after all.

That is a pretty bad for a free to play. Genshin/Star Rail has Gacha, and Genshin at least has frequent, quality, updates, and a faster schedule than this game. I do agree though, they actually want us to pay a sub here, and we get laughably little for it. Anyone who doesn't have a house has it good, since they can unsub, but then they also don't have a house, so an entire feature they miss out on.

If I had to guess, the game they are referring to sounds like SWTOR, but I haven't played that game in like 7 years. I do know they had infrequent updates, and loot boxes. I heard that a relatively recent update they did was quite short.

If he's talking about swtor its not even close. XIV's small story updates are longer than swtors "major" content updates.

XIV gets a lot of content. Ya'll just ignore it or no life it.

I have no interest in discussing the other game I was referring to, to be honest - for one, I really don't enjoy doing so and have no interest arguing my point about a game I now dislike on the forum of a game I enjoy.
And secondly, I can't see any reason to since it is, demonstrably, only acceptable to have a negative opinion of FFXIV in this forum in general and this thread in particular.

As for negativity, I don't get it. This is official forums, not some facebook meme page. Why would anyone come here to spread positivity? You have twitter, reddit, FB is supposedly still a thing, discords, and many other media for that. OF is more akin to discussion forums and positive things simply do not spark the discussions, which is why narrative often seems skewed towards negativity. The fact that half of the posts nowadays are shitposts is another thing.

There are far too many people who misrepresent me as someone who dislikes FFXIV when my main issue is how far the standards have fallen and how shocking the change of direction has been when compared to previous expansions.

My ideal situation is one where FFXIV is back to levels of enjoyment I had prior to Endwalker. Seeing the game seemingly double down on all the mistakes it's been making this expansion has been an awful experience, doubly so when I'm attacked by people who do not have the frame of reference I do of when this game was in a far better state.
