Rare poster here, just to throw my own thoughts out since this seems as good as any place to provide feedback on the game.

MSQ while interesting has been disappointing with it's lack of new ideas, instead recycling the scions 5 minutes after promising them an overdue break with 6.3 being particularly egregious.
Go to garlemald, see the twins, zero flashback, fight the fiends, come back for 6.4 in 5 months lol. The entire story was basically told in th teaser trailer.

Island sanctuary is boring, Eureka orthos is boring, Variant is boring, Beast tribes is boring, grinding out relics and high level gear that will be redundant in the next patch is boring.

When I and many others complain of the lack of content, It isn't out of an absurd desire to be drowned in endless grinds. We want the Devs to spend their resources on content that fits a combat focused mmo (Which is what FFXIV is no matter how hard YoshiP tries to market it as otherwise), It's hard to believe the "we have no time/budget" defense when so much of their time is spent on creating content with little core appeal.

Like I want to play this game so I can turn into a monk and suplex a behemoth off a cliff, that's the FF mmo identity, not petty busywork to earn a rare garbage mount/minion/title that I will never use.

The most simple solution:
1. Get rid of third party players who clearly have an advantage over everyone else.
2. Make end game content Duty Finder friendly (for learning or clearing)
3. Get rid of end game content that seemingly "requires" (according to my previous posts) the use of third party tools

A long side-quest chain? It's only long if you're a new player coming in and have never touched the Hildebrand quests, in which case you're stuck doing two or three, maybe four if you're slow, hours of quests. If you've been around for any length of time, then it is instead a case of do like four quests and dip into your surplus of tomestones to near-instantly acquire a weapon.

I'm honestly baffled every time people bring this up as an argument, usually in combination with "there is so much to do", as if they have no concept of linear time.

You do realize you're playing an almost 10 year old game, right? If you started the game in Shadowbringers of course there is a ton of content for you to do, you have 8+ years of updates to catch up on.

We had a prime example of a hype features where it just resulted in people being discontent because of poor implementation. I mean well, we originally had this with Island Sanctuary prior to its addition alongside Variant/Criterion dungeons but they fail to deliver in the long run. I'm just hoping they seriously do invest into these since otherwise what was the point of it if its just gets quickly abandonned.

Unfortunately the game has a bit of a track record when it comes to abandoning ideas that didn't immediately pay off. Lords of Verminion, Chocobo Racing, Squadrons (no I'm not counting Duty Support since that doesn't have the same functionality), Grand Companies, Diadem was abandoned for the longest time until it just got turned into a gathering grind zone and a few more pieces that are debatable.

I have to confess that I find it difficult to be disappointed with FFXIV.

I moved to FFXIV, upon the recommendation from a friend, from a F2P game which I'd played for over ten years. I gave up on said game when their content updates became more and more infrequent to the point where they were/are only producing one new episode, worth about 45 minutes of play time) every five or six months.
Of course they can't focus on producing new content as their business model revolves around convincing players to throw their credit cards at gambleboxes and super-expensive (£250) bundles of items. Which is ironic, as they're basically creating new items for players to use in the same old content, at great cost to the player.

In fact, said game is currently trying to generate hype with some nonsense promotional junk (which doesn't actually reveal anything about what is incoming) and expects players to get excited over ONE new episode (again, generally worth about 45 minutes of play time) and a new addition to their gamble box. And they genuinely think that adding new items to their sleazy* gambleboxes is new content.
And they're so paranoid about negative feedback that they only ever reveal the date of their content updates one week before it happens.

No, not really. At least, not in the context of what I saying. And you were VERY selective with what you quoted.

Granted FFXIV's content updates have slowed - but that seems to be due, at least in-part, to Devs working on FFXVI. And I think there have been at least two content drops in FFXIV in the time it took the game I used to play to produce a single, 45-minute long, episode.
Nor does FFXIV try to pass gambleboxes off as new content. In fact, the absence of gambleboxes is one of the elements of this game I love.

Furthermore, I can at least say that I know there is a new content drop coming later in the month, as SE advertises it well in advance. I also know that I won't be able to complete the sum total of that content drop in 45 minutes.
