That's a very meta way of looking at those changes when it is well known that pretty much any comp can clear content, and that will probably be the case in 6.X too.
+ AST is a buff healer, which is obviously not going to be as consistent as a WHM in terms of damages anyways, so adding a tiny layer of inconsistency on top of it is fine.
It's not like the inconsistency will bring its DPS to 0.
From your point of view, jobs like dancer, bard or even red mage are probably completely flawed as well just because of the nature of proc-based abilities being a DPS loss if you are not lucky. Might as well bring a BLM and MCH all the time. Oh and maybe they should remove crits from the game because it is inconsistent too?
