This occurs because trash mobs are so pitifully weak someone besides the tank can easily live pulling more mobs. And in the case of a healer, can tank them just fine themselves. Like I said earlier, you could be 100 ilvls below the recommended and a small pack would still barely even dent a tank.

Not saying I necessarily agree with the OP's approach but this is why some DPS and healers pull.
