Gender locked race?

Though to be frank always reducing it to skin color is moronic because not only does the character creation screen gives us such a wide variety to pick from within lore-friendly skin colors, it also gives us a wide variety of skin-colors outside any given sub-race's lore definition.

You'd think they're "outside" the lore-defined skin colours, but then we get weird things like the small number of dark-skinned Elezen in the middle of northern-European Ishgard - confirmably a thousand-year-old family trait of House Durendaire, and there are others like Charibert.

Setting aside how a debate can be had about where the Ishgardian Elezen fall in this in the first place, I'd sooner take it as proof of what we've known all along - lore is what the devs make of it, and even in the smallest things they can make or break it if they so choose, like hempen sets being race unlocked on NPCs.

To be honest, I'm leaning more towards this.

Two full races, not-genderlocked, sounds way too much to be plausible, and given the lore behind male Viera, I'm wondering if they're trying to preserve the mystery behind male Viera by not releasing them, but giving us a related race male-genderlocked, but similar enough to Viera that they are essentially our equivalent of male Viera.

So based on the race being described as Ronso-like (Which people say look like Roe) and another leakers saying bara cats. Are people excited for big burly bara bunny men? I better get the art train running then! LOL

It would be an improved Roe so I'd probably would switch into it, and I still have my free fantasia on my main that I've been holding. If people want to speculate the about Hrothgar being the male Viera equivalent, then I hope they know they'll highly unlikely get a thin elegant looking male Viera. Heck, I can use some of the same arguments on this forums against that option by saying, "We already have a male based bunny race, it is called Hrothgar! We should get something different!".

I understand your point, but I personally would love to see an actual male implementation of the Viera, and a femal implementation of the other tribe.
Gender-locking tribes is such a dated mechanic, it really has no place anymore in today's game market.
And frankly, I don't care whether Yoshi-P doesn't like the concept of a male Viera. We're the ones giving our money, and obviously the demand is there.

The race could still be elegant looking even if they're bigger. :v Not all big races have to look like ogres or something. I want a race that is ripped and dignified looking. Kind of like how the Viera females are sexy but still have this real fierce presence to them. Like they aren't to be messed with.

I just don't want another big comic relief race since SE pretty much uses male roes as joke characters exclusively.

If they're trying to give us Hrothgar as a substitute for male Viera, they should at least try to fill some of the expectations people had from Viera though. People aren't going to be happy if they're given something completely different and told to just forget about male Viera. That'll go over terribly.
