Even with a weekly limit on DD weapon it doesn't make any sense to be high ilvl, it would kill relics and if you got the DD weapon you wouldn't need to spend Tomes on a weapon at all, not gonna happen.
But it won't kill relics or completely wipe out other types of content.

You need to consider that SE has always stated its vision for 2.0 and beyond to be a "theme park" MMO. That means having attractions for different groups of players.

So, to make this as simple as possible for the sake of discussion, let's break out three groups of players:

    1. People who don't have much time to play.

    2. People who have lots of time to play, but at unpredictable times.

    3. People who play often and consistently.

We currently have three ways of getting high-level weapons: a) Nidhogg Ex, b) lores/gears and c) the relic quest. However, those options aren't realistic goals for all three groups of players.

If you're in Player Group 3, then yes -- you can get all three. And having a new way to get a weapon won't really enhance your XIV experience, especially if your focus is min/maxing just a couple of jobs.

But if you're in Player Group 2, then you probably can't easily join a static, so Nidhogg isn't nearly as viable as an option as lores/relics. And if you're in Player Group 1, then your only real option might be lores/gears.

So we have some players who have three good options, others who have two good options and some who have one good option.

At this point, we have no way of knowing what kind of grind will be required by Deep Dungeons in order to build out a weapon. But it's safe to assume this will add that viable third option to everyone in Player Group 2 and some folks in Player Group 1.

If you're in Player Group 3, then I understand why you're having a hard time getting excited. But just because this won't benefit you doesn't mean it's not great for the game and for the majority of players.

You guys make great points about how the vertical progression scheme clashes with stats and itemization, and on that I totally agree with you! But what I'm saying is that despite that pitfall, this content is still going to be useful (and popular) among many players who currently find other parts of the game to be logistically inaccessible.

This isn't about simply adding more rides to the theme park; it's more about having enough variety among the attractions so that everyone who buys a ticket is engaged and entertained.
