Finally cracked 1M damage in A2S. Feels good.
Why did we get this buff again?

Was that pre-3.0.7 or post 3.0.7? Also its suppose to be the equalizer that Monks as a melee DPS lacks any real raid utility (other than Mantra) compared to Dragoons who prior to the 3.0.7 update were arguably the top melee DPS job of the three plus they have Disembowel which buffed the Bard or Machinist and Battle Litany which boosts everyone's Critical Hit chance and chance of critical Heals to proc. Ninjas, despite being the lowest melee DPS of the three made up for it with a bunch of raid utility like Goad, Trick Attack, and enmity controlling skills that allow the main tank to remain in their DPS stance without the Dragoon or healer accidentally ripping aggro away from them.
In many raid statics, Dark Knight replaced Paladins because Paladins arguably had the worst DPS numbers of the three tanks jobs when main tanking and Delirium basically took away probably the biggest reason to even have a Monk in a raid static.

Even as early as A1S launch, I can't imagine a single static in all of FFXIV that looked at their MNK and said "nope, you don't bring enough to the table."
I find that too often people just look at what the first few groups that down boss run and then assume nothing else is viable. It's like "well the world first took dragoon and ninja so monk is trash!" Most people don't give a crap about that obviously. Just a silly way of thinking. However, I won't complain about getting extra damage mind you!

You all are right, MNK isn't broken and the buff was nice, and it wasn't like it was gimped that it had no place even before the buff.
But even if someone doesn't say that they don't bring as much to the table, that's still objectively the case.
NIN+DRG are better in pretty much all of Alex except A2S, assuming equal skill levels.
A lot of people will have statics that don't stick to the most optimal comp, mine included.
That's fine, but that doesn't mean SE shouldn't try to fill in the gaps between Jobs.
In particular, MNK should at least have synergy with DRK like NIN has with WAR.
They buffed our damage so I guess they want us to bring more damage in-hand rather than raid-wide utility or dps increases.
Can't really ask for anything else if that's the direction they want, but the way DRK and MNK interact should be better instead of negating the utility of the other.
It's an issue on DRK's side as well, since the INT down is also the core of their raid utility.
Another Job shouldn't compete with your utility, which leads to it being preferable to bring Jobs that synergize instead.
If another Job fills that utility, then you should get something in return. Such as NIN-WAR, where NIN gets more damage.
That's really all I think MNK should get now.
Even if MNK is viable, that design just isn't good.
That's not the point I was trying to make nor do I believe it was the point that Almalexia was making either. Here in the last couple weeks there's been a lot of "sky is falling" posts and attitudes which just weren't warranted. Monks weren't in some dire situation of the entire population jumping ship. I'm in full agreement SE should strive for balance, and generally they do a pretty good job there compared to what you see in many games. Many of us also agree that the buff focus on utility would have been preferred over a flat DPS increase.
Outside of the groups pushing the bleeding edge of content as it's released generally aren't going to force anyone to change jobs or roles as some people try to have others believe. The level of exaggeration recently has been a bit much for a lot of the job roles.
Of course not, in fact prior to people getting their Esoteric weapons almost everyone but the World First raiding statics had problems with their DPS numbers against Savage Faust. Faust has roughly 970k HP with a 2:30 minute enrage timer. His Increased Pressure 16 stack attack ignores Hollowed Hallowed Ground, Holmgang, and Living Dead meaning you can't buy an extra 6 or 10 seconds. The raid group needed total of 6400 DPS an that's not counting accidental AOE damage from adds and a lot statics couldn't even break 4k DPS in 150 seconds. Savage Faust caused a lot statics to either break up or rethink their strategy like having everyone who main a Paladin to reroll to Dark Knight for extra DPS.
