I wasn't that invested in housing around the time and i didn't know it was change brought about on the forums.(i didn't even know forums were a thing at a time). Anyway the problem with housing isn't based on it's fair distribution and how people get the houses. It's the supply and demand problem. Not even the most sophisticated system in the world designed to distribute houses would be enough for everyone interested to be satisfied, if there is not enough houses for everyone. Instanced housing was meant to solve that problem and be a new subtype of housing, not a modification to wards housing. Besides what kind of argument is that "we asked for lottery so we have to deal with it" are we to be punished for asking for unfair and bad system to be changed? Are we supposed to just accept bad housing in otherwise great game just because one small solution didn't fix all the problems?
Island Sanctuary is it's own bag of problems one of them being that there is next to nothing you can do with friends or other people. It appears it was purposefully designed to be this way, to quote "your own personal paradise". So only allowing your friend list to access your island seemed to be deliberate choice. Now i am not here to say if it's good or bad decisions but coupled that with very hands off gameplay that was heavly time gated, that's what caused island sanctuary to be left behind by many people.
Then again the introduction of outdoor furnishings brought many people back and made island more enjoyable for many. Going back to the subject one thing coming with "package" of instanced housing would have to be some alternative way of accessing houses. Perhaps as a link in chat you can share or put in adventures plate that allows you to access that persons house?
That not mentioning the fact that venues are rather smaller part of how houses are used and many would prefer to decorate houses for their own sake and fun, not caring if others will see it or not.
