If someone really only cared about getting to end game in XIV you could skip all cutscenes and reach cap in just a few days and then go back and do NG+ once you're caught up. Either way, in both games you have to grind to get there in some form or another.

With that said. Combat in XI was NEVER good, so good luck convincing most people playing a remastered version of XI with that slow ass combat where you spend 99% of the time just staring at auto attacks.

Regardless of endgame stuff, which both games have their issues at endgame, lets be honest. I'd like for games to invest the travel and adventure sensation for immersion purposes. For example, in XIV they turned all the airships and boats into cutscenes instead of letting them run like they would actually run in game. A completely unnecessary move given that teleportation is all around the game.

So while people can argue that you can walk to places in XIV the design is obviously made with cutting out all the details and immersion slow travel would bring. We can't pretend the conveniences of teleportation and fast travel haven't impacted the design of the game, they have. It's a teleport first and "I guess you can walk?" game.

The game really feels hollow at times.
