And why does it matter if people laud "old XI"? There was a lot of stuff that I loved about, and also things I disliked. People are allowed to enjoy different types of games. Just because you didn't enjoy it doesn't mean it sucked. But hey, old XI is gone, unless you play on private servers. If you're going to compare XIV to XI, it should be the current retail version.

Nowadays, hitting 99 is a walk in the park, and if you're looking to catch up to friends quickly, you can focus on just the story lines/ranks you need vs. having to complete every single last bit of MSQ from past expansions. And it can be done solo with your trusts. Obviously if you're brand new it can take a little longer, but you can typically get to 99 in 1-4 weeks if new. Getting additional jobs to 99 can be done in a few days.
I think its funny you whine about MSQ in XIV, but to do end game in XI you still have to go through the same process of unlocking stuff which still takes a lot of time. They made CoP easier by removing the level sinks and getting to nation rank 10 is easier now as well, but it still takes quite a bit of time, especially Adoulin and reaching 99.

If someone really only cared about getting to end game in XIV you could skip all cutscenes and reach cap in just a few days and then go back and do NG+ once you're caught up. Either way, in both games you have to grind to get there in some form or another.

With that said. Combat in XI was NEVER good, so good luck convincing most people playing a remastered version of XI with that slow ass combat where you spend 99% of the time just staring at auto attacks.

This is complete and total nonsense lmao. At a casual level playing for 2 or 3 hours a day you can finish the MSQ in a month or two if you focus just on the MSQ. If you skip cutscenes you can be done in a week.
