This is a lot of words over 1 lost GCD in normal mode fights. My God. And the language used. "Extremely unpleasant". Yeah, definite Karen vibes. The game is extremely rigid. Having your rotation interrupted is often extremely unpleasant to the flow of the game, as it has cascading effects that can in some cases last for the entire remainder of an encounter. Not to mention, most casual content is boring as hell, and you end up getting denied one of the few fun things you actually get to do in it (greeding).
Feel free to read through this thread and see for yourself the disposition of the types of people who regularly feel the need to rescue others; It's on full display for you to readily see.
I like that you call other people a Karen despite the fact you think its ok to assume that other people are dumbasses who can't tell when they need to get away from aoes/mechanics. It's very easy to gauge someone who is competent vs someone who is new/struggling even in normal content. Not sure why you think the rescue button should be used to be a micromanaging nanny to get people to do things YOU want them to do, instead of letting them greed and have fun with it. Is life only fun for you when you get to look down on other people?
I for one never said anything about assuming people are dumbasses. Putting words in my mouth now? I just said it's silly to get this angry over 1 lost GCD especially when in normal content there are people who don't even know what a group buff is.I like that you call other people a Karen despite the fact you think its ok to assume that other people are dumbasses who can't tell when they need to get away from aoes/mechanics. Besides as far as griefing tools go the tank has the greatest griefing toolkit in the game by controlling the boss so removing tanks would be the go-to if we want to reduce the amount of griefing going on. Or better yet we can make FFXIV single player.
Dude, you're just openly slinging insults and aren't even making a coherent argument or statement about anything.
lol.
This is only ever a legitimate mistake, or griefing. Not comparable to rescue, unless you want to argue rescue is griefing.
You edited this into your post after you realized how weak your original argument was. Positionals are currently implemented in a way to where, while you may lose some potency, missing a positional shouldn't really impact the overall flow of your rotation. Players are also granted tools to reasonably mitigate this problem on their own, like True North. Most experienced players are able to tell when a tank is going to face the boss, unless they're running in circles which would again be griefing.

A tank suddenly turning around right when a cleave buster comes out is griefing. Two stacks being stacked together will not only leave the whole party alive if they had sufficient health a majority of the time (hello e12, I get you almost daily), but a player can mitigate this by just... Walking away. I've done it a few times to keep myself alive when I knew that getting into the stack would be a death sentence.
The player still has their freedom of movement and can easily avoid that without losing uptime, I even think it can be engaging because it adds some necessity for a quick, unplanned reaction... And if it's dropping AOEs in melee range, even extra occasions to do that good feeling greeding stuff.
I digress a bit, but really, rescue aside, there is basically no way to mess with a conscious player's experience without outright griefing them. And if the player is very obviously a good player, why even cast rescue on them?
im baby

To highlight LittleImp's point, I'll use RDM. If you get rescued during a melee combo, it isn't one GCD you're losing but several due to the fact you literally can't press any other button without breaking side combo. So you have to run back into melee range to finish it and if the person does press something, having not expected the rescue, then they'll have lost even more damage. Rescuing a BLM can cause them to drop Enochian if done at the wrong moment. NIN can bunny Mudras because the sudden movement causes them to accidentally press a button they weren't intending to.
Does any of this matter in casual content? No. That doesn't make it any less annoying, especially when the Rescue didn't accomplish anything.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
Oh it can be 'annoying', sure. I get annoyed any time someone starts heal spamming me when I have raw intuition. That doesn't mean I'm going to head to the forums and make a thread about how I didn't consent to being healed and the skill should be removed because I can heal myself just fine. And trust me, heal spammers are a lot more of a DPS loss than 1-2 GCDs for an improper rescue. I just accept it as a part of playing an online game with other people. They may not play as efficiently as I do and it's fine.To highlight LittleImp's point, I'll use RDM. It's VERY Karen behavior to think "I am annoyed therefore I am right".
