Now that's a mentor I like to see/ am striving to be. Teaching new players takes time. If you don't have the time don't do mentor roulettes that's how it works, so many people are entitled whiny childrenAll I see here are cowards who don\\'t want to put any effort into teaching new players, but want their rewards for doing so. It\\'s the same as people who do main scenario roulette but complain they can\\'t skip cutscenes: queuing for this roulette comes with a certain set of expectations, and if you don\\'t like them you don\\'t have to do the roulette, but don\\'t do it anyway and then complain.
I get Extremes in mentor occasionally, and it\\'s a nice change of pace from low level dungeons and guildhests. And when I get them, I do my best to actually explain mechanics, which tends to go over pretty well, despite how people love to meme on new players being \\'bad\\' or hostile (they usually aren\\'t unless you are). The few people who won\\'t listen or get nasty get kicked and replaced.
I don\\'t always get clears, but I get more clears than not, and sometimes I need to look up mechanics real quick because I haven\\'t done that one in a while, but hey, the purpose of the roulette is to help people get through old content, I knew what I was getting into.
The only thing I\\'d change is that if you stay the full duty timer without a clear, it should still count towards your total because that time was spent putting effort into teaching.
From what I am reading here they should honestly remove mentor flair and mount rewards since almost none of ya'll should be mentors

They certainly can do exactly that, but if they did it would hurt them (and sprouts) a lot worse than it would hurt us.
Thankfully for the sprouts, your assessment doesn’t carry the necessary weight to cause this harm.
I would absolutely love for them to remove the rewards from the mentor roulette. That way no mentor has to ever do this roulette ever again and can instead focus on helping parties who are willing to learn in party finder, aka what most mentors do nowadays anyway.
ofc it doesn't carry weight i am a nobodyI just love that so many mentors on here are just like : "waaah I don't wanna teach people in DF because it COULD take a lot of time waaa gib me mount for spamming dungeon or Hests waaah".
I myself am not a mentor because I leave duties the second it is done and I don't really care for the mentor role, since ya don't need it to help peeps. But seeing the takes people on the forum have is to funny to not respond at times
now that's a good take right here

What prompted this whole debate is you wanting to extend that penalty to upwards of 90 minutes all to "hold them accountable" when they literally couldn't care less. You're likely making it harder for those sprouts out of sheer pettiness. Going along with what Daeriion_Aeradiir said, say it's a healer who is sandbagging by playing poorly or they were who faked a DC. Now that sprout healer trying to learn Ifrit EX has to do several times the work when they probably aren't too well accustomed to the job they're playing. If they're cool with it, hey, why not give it a short. But if you (and others) are telling them "no, don't kick that person!" simply to "punish" them by holding their character hostile. You're kind of failing at your objective if they're off playing a different game, doing some housework or whatever else and that aforementioned sprout healer is struggling to keep a equally new party alive. It's not Ramuh but I did do Titan Ex without a co-tank thanks to a mentor that bailed on spouts.. that one has tank swap busters too..
But no I'm just advocating for people to commit to what they sign up for with the roulettes.. you know that Exs are in mentor if you don't wanna do an Ex don't do mentor roulette.
Also that's the point.. they can do something else for the instance hour.. but they ain't doing it on the chr that's in the Ex with me and the spouts.. so they can eat that 30min timer or lose access to their current chr for a full lockout or however long it takes us to clear.. knowing that if they had helped it would be faster
It all boils down to what I said before. Trying to force someone to do something rarely works.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
Maybe if the mentor system didn't suck and was actually split up to allow people to teach the content they're actually knowledgeable in, you'd have more mentors willing to actually teach. Always sounds unreasonable to me that people expect mentors who've likely never fought the bosses synched to suddenly be able to teach them while synched, and it's extra unreasonable that a system was designed to put people into that situation in the first place.
The fault lies with SE's design, players wanting to just get a fancy mount are simply a by product of SE lazily putting a carrot on a stick for people rather than creating a thoughtful system intended to help new players.
I don't give a crap about the reward, nor do I feel a duty to drag paint eaters through content years old and utterly irrelevant that they can easily do in five minutes unsynched. I do mentor roulette when I am bored, and if I get an ex nine times out of ten I'll bounce and give the other six poor sods a free way out.Again people find handicaps and challenges fun too.. that's why we have people beating Dark Souls with a DDR pad or a Gutar Hero controller lol..
But to each their own.. my main point in this entire thread is that mentors should be held responsible for the trails and challenges they recieve when using mentor roulette and if they aren't or won't then they honestly need to not use that roulette or retire their crowns.

But it kinda is. Have you read the description on what SE sees Mentors as? I'm sure you can find it on Google somewhere ... hmmm ...DR:Mentor is the "Game, put me where you need me," button. It's an "I don't need anything specific myself, so let's see what other people are running," button. It's even a button I'm willing to press ten or more times a day for no reward, as the achievement tracker stopped counting my runs years ago.
But it's not an "I'm willing to commit myself to 45 minutes of Praetorium cutscenes" button (there is DR:MainScenario for that) and it's not an "I'm willing to explain the mechanics for an entire extreme trial from the point of view of each of the four roles so that people who don't know how to extreme can complete a trial within the hour" button. It's ludicrous to think anyone should be compelled to stay for either of those things, nor should they be held hostage for the fifteen minute lock on Vote Abandon. If they want to leave and eat the 30 minute general duty penalty, let them.
