We're actually getting two trials for 5.2, not just one.

Well yes...A normal mode, and an extreme. What's new? Thats how its always been.
Not only that but it was marked "(Tentative)" - Does that mean the name is tentative? Or is it not 100% we're even getting a trial lol.
Most of which aren't relevant.
There are currently 46 raids in the game, 97 if you include all difficulties.
So does that mean we dont need any more raids anymore?
No, of course it doesn't. This is a budget cut, plain and simple. And considering well over 2/3rds of the player base is casual in nature, they've basically reduced the ammount of casual content in each patch by 50%

2.0 Veteran from 2013. Just looking to be helpful. DRK is Love, DRK is life.
(Ignore the levels on my character card, the tool i used to make it hasn't been updated for 4.0)

The Ruby Weapon (Normal and Extreme) and a "secret" possibly MSQ related trial: that's 3 trials.

Wasn't it presented the same way for the secret trial as Kugane Ohashi was?
Would be nice if we're getting more Hildabrand trials, 2.x had three trial fights in the questline and then we had to wait till Kugane Ohashi for the next.

I think Hildibrand is over (at least for now) ?
But yeah, I guess it would be a similar trial. They said it was kept secret because of spoilers, so I'm wondering if it is MSQ related or if it is something happening in new side-quests (like those quests around Gaïus, if that story does not lead to Weapon Trials).

We saw Hildibrand, Nashu and Greg disappear into a black void portal, a good guess they're gonna end up on the first imo.I think Hildibrand is over (at least for now) ?

Of course, there is a chance they switch up the content release, but it would be the first time since early 2.x they're doing it. HW was 3 trials in the story with the 2 first as EX at the end, then 3.1 EX of the final story trial, after that it was 1 trial with NM/EX versions in each patch, with 3.2 being the first triad, then 3.3 MSQ Nidhogg and 3.4+3.5 being the last two triads.
SB followed this almost to the letter. Only deviation was The Great Hunt, but that was a collaboration event. And then towards the end a secret trial was teased that turned out to be Kugane Ohashi.
So far, SHB is following the same pattern. The devs have a habit of being predictable in this sense. But maybe we'll see something new. Could also be related to the new relic weapon, long time since we've had fights dedicated to that.
It may or may not be a budget cut to dungeon development as it remains to be seen if there is anything done in place of that on the PVE end, but it's probably not a budget cut when considering the game as a whole, considering everything else that we're getting.

Funny, this type of thinking on behalf of the player base is prob a factor in them looking at this huge focus for man power and resources and thinking "yeah, perhaps we can lessen the amount of dungeons we make and use that energy for something else".
It happened before ... they use to make side paths and tricky "gotta read stuff" dngs. Those earlier dngs were waaaay harder and even if you enjoyed them there were sometimes patterns or elements to them that you would forget more often than not. You can go back and play them if you forgot how much more demanding they were. But they looked at the playerbase and made changes to how they make these dngs as a result.
And given the nature of this game you can not call that a budget cut, lmao! How is it a budget cut? Unless you know for a fact that they let go of people as a result of this.
Cause if they haven't done a mass layoff then the people who would be making the models and settings and textures and lighting and animations and concept art for the no-longer-happening dungeons are still there, working on something else. Either making something else come faster or making something happen that they couldn't do before.
What's that something else? Wont know til we see it. It's shifting and moving resources if they keep their staff the same size, not a budget cut.
I've been very open about my thoughts that we are just sadly never gonna see Female Hrothgar (or male buns I guess) cause Yoshi has said in more ways than 1 and VERY directly at times that they simply can not keep making content at the pace they are and support more character models than they have now (races). And dngs are a pretty big use of modelers and character animators and so on, it's a big part of their content cycle. Though I still don't think it likely to happen I can now see a future where they reveal them and talk about how they were able to support them after "reallocating some resources ...". Or perhaps we will see some other kick ass things in the future that used that men power, like updated CC and new animations or more glam sets that are brand new or more housing items and other side things that people love, idk.

No dungeon is ever irrelevant with the roulette system. Completing dungeons through roulettes will reward you with tomes, exp, and stuff. The wild card is how players save up and spend them.Well yes...A normal mode, and an extreme. What's new? Thats how its always been.

Now if you want to talk about current "Expert" dungeons, they are pretty much linear corridors with aoe spam on big pull, gear chests in between, and bosses with reasonable mechanics here and there.
And remember, dungeons aren't the only casual content out there. There are also hunts via hunt trains, PVP, and other stuff brought up earlier by others.
