While I agree the Dramaturge should be considered a flawed source of information why put in that amount of lore that would be invalidated by character character screen come the expansion.I do feel like we're putting too much stock and faith in the Dramaturge's words. I get he's supposed to be the Viera creator similar to how the Wandering Minstrel is Yoshida, but at the same time it wouldn't make sense that everything he said is 100% accurate, or that he said 100% of what was there to say.
So while I do think he would've mentioned it if there were other differences, who's to say he necessarily knew about them? He could've confused two Viera belonging to the one tribe thinking they came from different tribes because the skin color was so different (a not unreasonable mistake). And that's before we get to the lore of the different tribes/clans - how much would someone really know about such subtle differences, for such a secret society? Viera are reclusive and exclusive. There's a limit to how much he would know, or at least have had first hand experience with. For instance, he's never seen a male Viera before, and while that could easily be them crushing our hopes for the bunny boys, it doesn't change my point - as much as he is a mouthpiece for the story-teller, the Dramaturge still isn't even remotely depicted as an all knowing authority
I was mostly making an example regarding the skin colors. More than likely there are more differences between the clans, just that he wasn't privy to.
Though to be frank always reducing it to skin color is moronic because not only does the character creation screen gives us such a wide variety to pick from within lore-friendly skin colors, it also gives us a wide variety of skin-colors outside any given sub-race's lore definition.
Fair point I'd thought you meant they might do some big changes but yeah there is plently of scope for additions and minor corrections to what he saysI was mostly making an example regarding the skin colors. I'm hoping for it, I won't lie. Still lowkey hoping for the Viera-Feol separation but not holding my breath on that one. And they talked about floppy ears, wonder if that will be an option or one of the characteristics setting the clans apart.
I hope so too, but I can't see it. I just can't them adding exposition like that just to better set up some hype at the full reveal. I assume the floppy ears will just be part of the creator options.
You'd think they're "outside" the lore-defined skin colours, but then we get weird things like the small number of dark-skinned Elezen in the middle of northern-European Ishgard - confirmably a thousand-year-old family trait of House Durendaire, and there are others like Charibert.Though to be frank always reducing it to skin color is moronic because not only does the character creation screen gives us such a wide variety to pick from within lore-friendly skin colors, it also gives us a wide variety of skin-colors outside any given sub-race's lore definition.
Setting aside how a debate can be had about where the Ishgardian Elezen fall in this in the first place, I'd sooner take it as proof of what we've known all along - lore is what the devs make of it, and even in the smallest things they can make or break it if they so choose, like hempen sets being race unlocked on NPCs.You'd think they're "outside" the lore-defined skin colours, but then we get weird things like the small number of dark-skinned Elezen in the middle of northern-European Ishgard - confirmably a thousand-year-old family trait of House Durendaire, and there are others like Charibert.
