Kiote,
They are going to release new content in one year. Didn't you get the memo?
No seriously. Perhaps they are not trying to establish proper itemization until they have tweaked and adjusted every mechanic they are implementing. Think about it for a second now. They are releasing content like this to keep us busy while they work on the actual game. In fact, I would just classify this game as Final Fantasy 14 and 2.0 as FF14-2. I'm not even kidding.
so why are they charging us if its just stuff to keep us busy until the real game?Kiote,

the way that every MMO has worked in the past new gear that comes out with new content makes old gear obolete. this is why hardcore players go nuts over new content and burn through it so they can be first to have the new gear. i don't think its coincidence that OPs thread is titled "only 2/5 endgame content viable, why?" to answer that question because OP thinks oly 2 pieces of gear are worth getting. and in a few months the best gear will come from other places but still only 2 places will be worth going for OP
so some1 said earlier this is an MMO and not an RPG, i completely agree ppl should not think of an MMO dungeon the same way they think of an RPG dungeon. in an RPG the majority of the time you do a dungeon to progress further in the game. MMO dungeons have a different purpose. ppl think the reason for a dungeon in an MMO is for great loot, this is wrong. the reason for a dungeon in an MMO is to give players a place to interact together. MMO Massively multi-player, the emphasis is on the multi-player. RPG and MMO have loot in common when it comes to dungeons, its not the focus its a bonus
and its ppl that think of a dungeons as a way to aquire the best gear and only that as a purpose for a dungeon are the ones upset by lack of content

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
I've said this once before but the people that defend every fart SE propels, are the same people that want rainbow chocobos, rainbow armor, raindbow nails. All they care about is aesthetics. All they want to see is The Sims: Final Fantasy Adventures. They don't care about the fact it's an RPG. They just want to play dress up.
Most of your post aside, I can agree with the fact a lot of people simply don't care that it's an RPG, which is evident by a lot of people only worrying about the loot they'll obtain and how, and that's only part of what makes an RPG an RPG.I've said this once before but the people that defend every fart SE propels, are the same people that want rainbow chocobos, rainbow armor, raindbow nails. I believe they need the money. Not in the sense that they neeeed the money or they can't pay the power bill.I still cant understand why you or anyone else is so against letting the game be free until 2.0. They clearly dont need the money (its SE, the are loaded) and they dont care how little people play, they are doing 2.0 reguardless....so why not let it be free until then? why make little money now and piss off and likely loose a bunch of potential players because you want to charge for a crappy product?
i just dont get it.
But Yoshida needs to prove himself. Has he turned 1.0 into a game that displays earning potential? Is he on the right track in turning FFXIV around? Do the players support him and his development team, or will they turn away in droves once people are asked to pay? As a business, you need to see that FFXIV is going somewhere, not continuing to sink and hopelessly bleeding more money as they invest another year of development into it.
Ultimately, it's a test, and people will rate FFXIV with their dollars. That's my take on it, anyway.
Thing is, if you're not going to be satisfied with anything short of 2.0, you'll never be satisfied until then. So they may as well bring in what revenue they can with the people who can live with what they've got to offer now.
That said, I think it may be a mistake to clobber the delicate community that's left with fees at a time like this, but it's not my call to make. Hopefully, they'll choose a price that keeps more people around.

Isn't the same with any game? There is always only one or two sets of high powered stuff compared to the others, which makes elitists cry.
You know what? 5/5 of the current content is worth doing.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
Because you don't understand things in game development costs a lot of money, and they can easily soften the blow by subbing a fee for a basic game (you pay a lot more monthly for something you should already get for free in your life, btw.)the whole point is that most of that does not last very long, people have been doing much of that for months....and this games been out for over a year...and we are only getting 1 new real event, so people getting bored REALLY fast is bound to happen. They can't expect to charge us for a game where there is little to do, and lots of things wont/cant happen because we are still on these garbage servers playing in a crappy world (you even said its copy paste, which surprised me)

XIV has already been free for over a year, making almost no money, you expect them to run an absolutely free MMO (-box cost) for another year with almost no profit? I'm pretty sure Square isn't self-funding this game for no reason, and sooner or later other departments will eventually feel XIV's development sting if they keep funneling money into the project but producing nothing in return.
Hmm, really? Please explain why threads like these exist then..

Nobody should have to make a thread just to get people to do content.
Don't kid yourself. Even Yoshida himself understands that there has to be a reward for doing content. According to him, it's one of the main reasons we don't have a card game yet.
