Also, even though I'm sure you'll just burn me and dont want to hear this, but my first impression of your "application" in the marriage thread was: "What a jerk - is he making fun about the gay or gaming community? Or both?" I would advice you to act a bit more respectful and in a way that can be taken serious - spamming "Yaoi. Yaoi. Yaoi" for a whole column doesnt do the trick, it just seems childish and not as if you mean any of that - with this attitude a matchmaking symstem wont help you either.

1. Matchmaking to marry!
- risk of turning the system into "just another quest I'll do because the game tells me to" - recently its something you and your partner choose to do for yourself (wether its about a real connection or just getting the items)
- risk of randomly pairing up minors with guys/girls (to be fair here) who have something else in mind than just getting a new mount to ride - with an official match making system SE either has to block this option for minors (and make you confirm your age) or take responsibilty for things like that happening. Neither seems ideal to me - and even if we can say that things like that may already happen in game once in a while, the enviroment of a marriage would make it more likely
- SE is running a video game, even if its an MMO, even if it "requires" interaction with other people, not a dating service (and again: this game is rated 12, at least in germany, I'm not enterily sure about PEGI right now)

I'm sure we can think of preventative steps such as disclaimers. I'll have to think about the measures taken for I can agree people are Crazy.

If you're worried about it being viewed as a Dating service. There are ways to lift that notion, such as having a buddy system. Think of it as a step further beyond the mentor system.

Not necessarily. That's why I stress the idea of something similar to the dropdown box selection.

Think of it as like picking an after School club. You will be bound to find other human souls who will be interested in whatever the craft is in a generic sense. What that craft entails of course may be Ambiguous as everyone has different feelings and opinions. This literally creates a way for players to explore not only others but themselves in who they wan't to play and develop with. (Raiding, crafting, making Gil, Relations, hunting, and Etc)

So... all in all - please explain to me why we need a system specially to make friends in this game when we already have a bunch of tools that help us to meet people, if we desire so?
