Can you explain the timings thing? I use focus target so I see both textual cues. I've always seen the voices as being random (no set order)You know... I haven't ever thought about that. I checked against a video or two and those attacks have cast bars. Focus target would make them trivial.I'll remember that.
Edit: I don't think I really answered your question. I memorized the timings instead of relying on cues. It's the same way I manage enochian in my rotation.
I wasn't sure exactly how to explain what I meant by timing in terms of bosses doing mechanics, so I just went and solo'd the boss in question to get a more concrete feel for it. While those attacks are randomized, Chimera pauses before attacking and lifts the head matching the type of attack he's about to do. As his HP drops he starts doing more attacks, but they are in a loose order that's predictable. Granted, this requires a lot more intuiton and effort than just watching for the cast bar on his HP bar, or focus targeting, but it did work just fine for me.
Honestly, that last part makes me facepalm a little bit because I really only started using focus target in heavensward when look away mechanics became more common.

I think I have a little too much ping or brain lag that I probably would not have time to see the heads charge but that is really good to know. I honestly learned about Focus Target back in T5. Been using it ever since. I also mention it to newer people because PERCENTAGES. I LOVE THEM.While those attacks are randomized, Chimera pauses before attacking and lifts the head matching the type of attack he's about to do. ...

Playing on old PvP servers is where I got my introduction to watching my back during the vanilla WoW days. Made how I naturally played there and XI leaps and bounds more attentive than the average. Guild/LS leaders always commented how quickly I always responded to (potential) pats/adds during fights, so we could have a small prep time to handle it. Older now and got out of a lot of the more hardcore play, but old habits still stick with me (e.g. spinning the camera quickly to check surroundings mid-fight).Guides have their place. However, letting noobs mess up is also part of the learning process into becoming better players. You have to let new players develop intuition to adjust to new and different situations. Good players will be curious on how to improve. Bad players will just be apathetic. That will not change.
I don't really know how anyone can explain how to dodge basic AoE's (some of which most likely killed him), though... that's something you pretty much learn from experience or the first time you ever see it. It's because of that (supposed) fact being stated that is making me question the LNC.
This might be a random bit to add, but there is a form of color blindness (the kind that removes red, I think) that makes the orange AoEs next to invisible.
Thinking of that in terms of Cutter's Cry, 2 bosses are on light brown sand, and one on reddish-black ground. It's an extremely unlikely case, but possible that the poor dragoon may not be able to even SEE the AoEs.
I recall watching a raid vid on Sephirot wherein one player couldn't see the green AoEs because of his color-blindness.
Color-blind mode, or at least the option to customized AoE colors, needs to be a thing.
I think I know which video you're talking about, but I think that was only on the Spirit/Life Force attack (couldn't tell the difference between the colours), but I think he could see everything else. When ARR first came out, AoE's were just red (no pulse or anything), which made them pretty much invisible for players with red colourblindness. Nowadays, they're orange and they pulse (I believe it was made this way for the colourblind community).
The important things in the MSQ are muddied by ridiculous quests such as putting perfume on chocobos or those bizarre hide-and-seek quests, so on and so forth. I believe things like that are what provoke people to skip over them. The class quest ones are by far some of the more important things to pay attention to.
When I started out though I felt compelled to look at guides simply to make everyone's life easier. But I still made a lot of booboos when I began, plenty embarrassing. I really try to hold onto the hope that if I can learn it, others can too.
