Like I said, he's not right for being ignorant and playing poorly. It's not a valid excuse no but if they actually listen and learn when told instead of just being berated off the bat? We won't know because of this one post and from how biased it is. Yes the player sucked but I honestly sucked at dodging Ifrit and Titan's plumes in Hard Mode for about a week before I got better. His 'new' excuse is valid for Chimera deaths (not helped by the gear issues) and I don't know if those other 8 deaths to bosses were in the 2nd boss. Did he know to stay out of the middle? Did he know he could lessen or avoid the damage by staying away from the wurm's underground charge? Or did he think it was unavoidable?

As you said, "it's basic RPG knowledge" but if this is their first MMO? Their first RPG? It's their fault for not reading yes, but that just means they might need a little more help than others. I remember I was 13 and playing Breath of Fire and I screwed up the basics by not speaking to ONE NPC of all NPCs in a town. He had never been a part of the "linear" line and I wanted to get a move on. Shame on me because I went to check online what I had done wrong and it was the ONE NPC I didn't speak to. It happens.

Re:Gear, as far as I know the gear added was to the 45 and 50 quests (AF and AF+1/Myth) and other lvl 50 gear but it's at the end of the 2.0 ARR questline onwards. HW added the HQ gear. Otherwise before hand most of that gear is pretty honestly crap so if he was wearing dungeon gear he might have been under the erroneous assumption that his gear was still much better even with the level difference.

But you don't hit that treshold when your accessories are a mix of VIT, STR, DEX and MND.
Even the MSQ dungeons in HW are still meh in terms of iLVL requirements. I had a MCH with a plain Ironworks gun, ironworks left side with Chest+Pants Augmented, 2 DEX i130 accessories BUT STILL USE 2 i39 Accessories and 1 i38 accessory.

And he knew better because when he was happy about being 60 and being able to use the i240 torrent gun and I'd asked him if he could replace his accessories, he said no and that he could craft i220 ones 'soon'. Showing off a Caster and a Healer Midan accessory did not change how I felt about it.

I see the point about doing content blind and learning the hard way. I love doing just that in SINGLE player games, but that's not a luxury I can afford here.

Here, I'm tanking for a group of people who are depending on me. If I go in blind, there's a good chance that I'm reading my healer his last rites when I hit the ready check. I've felt the frustration of party members who can't pull their weight in MMO's. I would never want to be the cause of that frustration.

Check his level man. Right now he's doing Cutter's Cry and I believe DD. He's also going in with the mindset of not holding back the party, something I'd assume people would like more. He's also at the point where PLD can finally hold agro comfortably.

For me and you who got to do this all while it was new and there were no expectations, its hard to see the need for a guide. But if someone wants to do there role right and does the prep work ahead of time it leads to a smoother run. More enjoyment for everyone.

We all had to do it "for the first time", it's no different.
And unless he knows no one, I'd say the most enjoying way to do a dungeon is by going with 3 friends, especially if you all go blind and learn the mechanics together.

Yep the fun of update day and wiping on bosses you all have no clue about with friends.

That is a massive exaggeration, I tell you what the only difference is that I can't dps as much with an experienced tank. Which results in it adding an extra 5-10 mins to my run. Lol Last rites lol

When it comes to dungeons in general, the basic etiquette should be to at least have your gear 2-3 levels close to the min of X dungeon, but don't be a dick and apply non main stat gear to your gear to inflate your stats because then you are actually just making things worse for yourself.

I can stand people not knowing mechanics, but I can't stand it when people put on the wrong piece of accessory just so they can get high enough for content, cause the reality is they aren't high enough for the content since IL Is nothing more than a number that says you should be meeting a certain main stat treshold. wait whats this about... 'checks OP post' ah fair statement a "Green leaf" isn't always a real "Newbie", its a clasification that this avatar has only under X time or X achievement points in-game, that said will seeing said "leaf" naturally cause a need to be helpful/nice from "Everyone"? Nope, why cause everyones different & good luck trying to "Force/demand" ppl do such a thing (some will intentionally ignore or do different just cause u are being forceful)

Personally I'll give advice on boss mech apon request or a Wipe caused by such things & will note if they arn't using an "Aura" (MNK flame fist, PLD Shield oath, etc) if it is nessesary or might benifit them (Tank's). Thou gear can be a problem I do ask why some ppl wear the wrong accessory's per class or why their gear is so much lower then needed, however if it is possible I shall try to at lest get them threw the instance (Specificly a dungeon) as it may drop them a replacement item.

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

Yes, someone had to work everything out originally. I'm very thankful they did, and I'm sure it was a blast. And I know that doing content blind is fun. I did it all the time in other MMO's when I was younger.

However, I very much believe that my fun should not come at the expense of the rest of my party, so it's my responsibility to be at least moderately prepared, especially tanking or healing.

Also, the point of discovering information is to share it, so that it can be built upon. In school, you don't rediscover the wheel. You learn from those who have come before so that you can build on it and further it. The same applies any time there's learning to be had.
