Okay we're a year into HW, where's storage diversity?

Yeah i'm getting worried about this, i'm a newish player myself, only at level 44 on my highest battle class and level 25 on my highest crafter class, and i'm already feeling these inventory issues with the crafting mats alone, i can't even think of being a pack rat in this game or i'll need to start buying extra retainers.

I only have two retainers and they are full up most of the time and I am a Black Mage. My next highest class is Bard at 50. I have no Gathering class yet and my Hand class is Weaver at 20 and nothing else.

Part of the reason I have been so slow to level anything as a newish player is lack of space.

It is a bigger problem here than it has been in any other MMO for some very basic reasons:

1) Multiple classes on one character means multiple gear sets. There are 13 War classes and 11 Hand/Land classes.
2) Glamouring an item requires you to have the item in your inventory (at least I can't seem to glamour anything using items with my retainers)
3) There are multiple degrees of quality per item
4) Recipes require many items if you craft
5) Even if you have a class fully leveled you may not want to ditch your old gear because your retainer needs to be geared out too

All of this would be fine if storing items weren't so much of a problem.

Omni 60 crafter here and I survive with two retainers. It's just about learning what is important to keep and what needs to be liquidated.

Not that I won't welcome a better storage solution in the future the space crunch is real. If it means taking more time to load retainer inventories so be it but I'm not buying the server limitations excuse anymore. It's not my problem that they continue to bloat existing item counts without any resolutions for the current restrictions. As far as I'm concerned the developers are digging their own Graves here. Like the housing snafu I have no pity for them continually refusing to fix a broken system.

I think it's less of an expansion and more of a re-working the entire thing. Other games have done this, so it's not unfeasible to assume FFXIV won't.

I have to agree with Jynx. I was doing quite well on two retainers as an omni-crafter/gatherer. My difference is, I liquidate pretty much everything and start from scratch (I don't really have any rare or precious mats that I want to hold onto, at the moment, mind you).

Back when I was pack ratting everything, one retainer held the glamour and the cooking ingredients and the other held the rest.

I only just recently bought a third retainer as I'm starting to omni-level all my low alts and I'm saving literally all the gear, ever.

That said, I would LOVE it if we could turn our wardrobes into glamour closets. Right now, they're just non-functional decor, but how cool would it be to make them into another armoire, but for dungeon glamour?

At the very least they're going to have to sort out the Armoury Chest, going to be hard for them to ignore the problem there when they add new Jobs. We have 25 slots per equipment slot there, and we currently have 13 Jobs, 8 crafts, and 3 gatherers. It's going to be hard to fit additional Jobs in there...

Really though, Glamours and the Inn Armoire are what need fixing... My physical inventory is, for the most part, fine. I wouldn't pass up a Bait Box for Fishing, but for the most part I don't need more inventory space. I need more storage space. Having less Glamour Prisms (IMO they should function exactly the same as materia and self-repairs, I carry around a single stack of Grade 6 Dark Matter for my repairs, and that covers me for anything, needing specific types and specific tiers of Glamour Prism just pisses me right off...) and the ability to cast Glamours with items not in your inventory (if my retainer/Armoire has it, I have it, why the annoying extra task of having to go take it out?). Then just let us slap anything in the Armoire (and if I can Glamour without taking it out, I don't ever need to take anything out of it again) and we're done.

At the absolute least, they should give as a free 3rd Retainer at this point... Is that really asking too much? IMO the extra Retainers should never have been cash shop material, given that is a payed bonus (mine bring back ~3k/18h, in 30 days that's ~120k, essentially SE sells 120k for $2). Extra Retainers struck me as prime Veterans Reward material; Been playing for a year? Have an extra Retainer to hold all the crud you've accumulated! Nope, instead we got teleport tokens...

A glamour log would take up less space on the server than a retainer per player if they implemented it efficiently.

Bolded/underlined what I think is your biggest oversight on the matter. When it comes to QoL, if it's not halfassed or years late, it's not FFXIV.

IIRC Yoshi did mention sometime recently that they're working on an armoury set storage solution to handle future jobs. Not sure on the specifics beyond you basically being able to switch armoury sets in and out at your retainer. It's not ideal but it would somewhat deal with the issue of the armoury chest capacity with regards to future jobs.

I dont really have much issue with storage myself. I feel like I do sometimes and then I look through and find a bunch of useless stuff that I don't need nor want anymore. Like old sets that I wouldn't use for glamour but I had for when I was leveling another tank or healer or something but I have all of those capped now so it doesn't matter. Then all of a sudden my storage is magically cleared out

I feel it is only really an issue if you are someone who hoards absolutely everything "just in case" it might come in handy or you MIGHT eventually want to use it for a glamour maybe someday
