If that was actually the reason, I would accept and understand that. However, I see no evidence that is specifically the reason this is forced on us.

who plays a final fantasy game and doesn't follow any of the story?.....
This is like the only MMO that can use the story as a main selling point.

Plenty of people. If the dev's dont want skippers to play they could say that, but I don't see them turning down anyone's money.
That's quite the assumption you made. If you are going to respond with random tidbits of empirical knowledge, please respect the fact that you don't actually have any basis for establishing those tidbits as fact.
Oh please do. As you can clearly see, all your posts about people who hate the requirement, there are so many more that disagree in the comments. Clearly the people who hate the requirement are the vast minority based on all you've shown.

Request thread closure. Reasoning in OP

I personally enjoyed the story, but I did find it grindy as well. My main issue with the 100+ quests required to get to the expansion content was the fact that you gained no XP. It felt like running in place.

i did not say it was the reason for it or any evidence to uphold for it being a reason. just a additional plus side of things that came with the gate decision from the story progressing the way it did. from season 1 through the current story on the dragonsong war.
4.0 might be rid of it. though that is anyone's guess if 4.0 does not require the 3.0 story line like 2.0 series does.
