zbtiqua: talk for yourself, Im here mainly for the story and thinks it is great that the game forces you through it.
In other mmo games, if you have not been playing it from the day it was released, it is hard to understand the story if you do not read tons of info online.

When you say "many has the same problem" it is more or less the same when someone calls in to customer support about their phone and claims "a lot" have the same problem, because their friend and friend friends has the same and some people online and then you look into it, its maybe a few hundred that has the same problem out of millions of users.

If your skipping the lvlv 50 story is only like 9 hours long... So wheres this massive time sink youre referring to?

Also, i know its about 9 hours since ive done it 6 times in the first 6 months i played... If you read and watch tho its closer to like...20 hours or so... Both account for queue times, only the later accomodates loligagging. 9 hours accomodates for roughly after praetorium up to steps.

I did the rush on a whm tho... Slower queues because your a dps is your own fault.

If that was actually the reason, I would accept and understand that. However, I see no evidence that is specifically the reason this is forced on us.

i did not say it was the reason for it or any evidence to uphold for it being a reason. just a additional plus side of things that came with the gate decision from the story progressing the way it did. from season 1 through the current story on the dragonsong war.

4.0 might be rid of it. though that is anyone's guess if 4.0 does not require the 3.0 story line like 2.0 series does.

so honestly speaking it will take you 1 more week or less to catch up to the expansion.

Unless you are playing 24/7 the pre-HW story takes alot longer than a week. Some people only have a few hours a day to play, if that. The story is going to take a lot longer than a week. I came in late and had to play catch up by the time I got to post 2.0 content all the patches up to 2.55 had been released, it took me over a month's time to complete it. Actually had to stop playing it for a bit to keep some sanity.

On the official forums, people talk and discuss the story. You don't see any threads saying that the story in the game needs to be cut down, because people who think like that aren't the main target audience.

You must be new here. When the xpac was launched there were tons of multi-page threads debating this very topic.

if you payed attention to any of the story from 2.0 you would know why the expac is gated behind the story. Ishgard doesn't like outsiders and the story leads you to getting inside it would be pointless for them to point out that they keep there gates closed and then just let you in with out establishing why you were let in. So like everyone else you just gotta suck it up and do it if that's to much for you then #byefelicia you leaving won't affect the game in the slightest.

even if there was a notice saying 'there will be lots of quests and cutscenes to do before entering the expansion at level 50' u still wouldnt know because you skip everything

you got to level 50 in a week so you must have alot of time to play, you could easily do all the lvl50 quests in a day or two plus they give xp and free gear
The story doesnt allow us to enter the heavensward areas, this is the reason why its gated and it makes perfect sense
just get on with it, u will be joining your friends in the expansion soon enough

Just want to point out that 18% of people in the poll linked by OP want to visit Sharlayan in the next expansion after heavensward ... I guess that's what happens when you skip all the cutscenes >.>

I don't get why people complain about doing the ARR side of things, I mean it's the same game! It's like you buy 2 books, the 1st one and the 2nd one, you don't bother reading the 1st one and just skip to the 2nd one. I mean why? Just because it's old doesn't mean it's bad, irrelevant or useless.

It's the same game but just carried on, I mean do you go to movies and start watching them at the midway point?
