The story is one of the main points to this game and with the expansion, I would say XIV has a story as compelling as the other main line Final Fantasy's. Story has always been a major selling point for Final Fantasy games and I feel it always will. If you don't like story, you're playing the wrong kind of game. There are dozens of MMOs that are recent enough to be playable that give 0 care to the story but XIV is not one of them.

Also the quest can take a long time but you said you're skipping the cutscenes and all that, so honestly speaking it will take you 1 more week or less to catch up to the expansion. If you really hate the story, then just do the quests to get good levels so you don't need to grind later on since they give nice EXP.

And no, you're not like many players. Every single player I know that plays the game enjoys the story. I know I don't know the whole community but I can safely say that it seems clear that the vast majority of XIV players aren't skippers like you.

That's a huge set of assumptions you have just made. Maybe that is your experience, but I seriously doubt you have surveyed the millions of players here and done an analysis? Everyone I play with has said "When you reach lv 50, you will hate life. We all went through it and hated it." So clearly, your opinion does not represent all players, and your post has not answered the question here.

My post is clearly targeted toward the devs and not other players. If you are going to respond with random tidbits of empirical knowledge, please respect the fact that you don't actually have any basis for establishing those tidbits as fact.

I said I don't know the whole community. But just go out and search yourself. If people were like you, skippers, there would be hundreds of discussions all over the internet about how the story is not important to the game. Except the exact opposite is true. Every where you look, every review you read, the story is one of the key points. On the official forums, people talk and discuss the story. You don't see any threads saying that the story in the game needs to be cut down, because people who think like that aren't the main target audience.

I did not say "the story is not important to the game." I said "the story is not important to the game, to plenty of people." Again you are missing the point, but since you mentioned it I did search, as I suspect you did not. See some of the following people who agree with me:

Unless you are playing 24/7 the pre-HW story takes alot longer than a week. Some people only have a few hours a day to play, if that. The story is going to take a lot longer than a week. I came in late and had to play catch up by the time I got to post 2.0 content all the patches up to 2.55 had been released, it took me over a month's time to complete it. Actually had to stop playing it for a bit to keep some sanity.

On the official forums, people talk and discuss the story. You don't see any threads saying that the story in the game needs to be cut down, because people who think like that aren't the main target audience.

I came in late and had to play catch up by the time I got to post 2.0 content all the patches up to 2.55 had been released, it took me over a month's time to complete it. Actually had to stop playing it for a bit to keep some sanity.

Read what I said. OP said he's skipping the story, skipping all dialog, just playing the game. So yes, it will take much less than a week for him to finish 2.X content.

OK so we have established, as I stated before, that there are people on BOTH SIDES of this topic. Allow me to explain something: Just because you make an observation i.e. "The posts I see on the forum are more often in favor of going through the story" does not allow you to conclude that "Almost all players want you to have to go through the story." When you make a conclusion like this, it is predicated upon an unstated assumption. In this case, your assumption is "All groups of players are equally represented by forum activity."

Did you ever stop to consider that maybe people who really like the story or roleplaying or whatnot might also just be more active on the forums? Could it be possible that people who do not care about the story, are also more likely not to care about the forums?

No more than you did yourself when you claimed "Like many players, I don't read anything." You're certainly not the only person who buys a game and doesn't want to actually play it, but it's far from common. Wanting to relax and play with your friends is great, but you can do that at any point in the game. It's no reason to skip everything.

Besides, if you are skipping every cutscene and clicking through every dialog, it will hardly take any time at all. It's certainly nowhere near the amount of content you've already done in the past week going from 1-50 and reaching the original endgame. I'm not really sure why someone would take that leveling for granted and yet balk at a few quests that don't take nearly such a time commitment.

Then I doubt you did the entire 2.0 line and leveled from 1-50 in a week as the OP claimed to have done. For someone who can finish 2.0 in a week, the 2.1 - 2.55 part is trivial in comparison.

Guess I just saw that they said they leveled to 50 in a week or so. Guess I missed where they said they did the story line too. Leveling to 50 isn't all that hard.
