Again you had your choice of server and chose one marked for NA... there was your option. You willingly chose an NA server over the "EU" server.

It's fair because if you've been playing this long on NA located servers then you likely don't have much of a problem and find it tolerable and that WONT CHANGE. Whereas NA players on the new EU servers will HAVE A WORST CONNECTION soon as opposed to now. It's not hard to grasp, it's unfair to not offer the free option because of a server relocation as it may not even be remotely playable for them, whereas its clearly playable for you now.

Many people have been playing on the "NA" servers for this long simply because before a datacenter located in Europe there hasn't been any difference between servers. It doesn't mean there aren't problems or that those players find it tolerable (there are a lot of lag issues and I know players who can't play certain jobs in endgame because of them), it only means that changing server to EU labeled one wouldn't have made any difference to the situation.

As many people have pointed out in the other thread about the topic, before it's been a choice between two servers with same issues but on one of them you've been playing for a long time, made friends, joined a FC etc. and of the other you know nothing about, and moving would have meant starting over without any actual benefits. I've personally been playing on Balmung since December 2011, I think (since patch 1.2). Why would I have moved before? Because I could have predicted the lag issues that would affect my raid groups 4 years later in 2.0 and 3.0 and that one day years from then they would have created actual EU servers that are likely to offer me a better choice? There was no way of guessing these things, especially considering all FFXI servers are still located in Japan (as far as I know, and as they've been since 2002).

Now that the EU servers will have a big affect on actual gameplay, the choice is completely different, and it makes sense that EU players on NA servers want to get the gameplay experience they should have gotten in the first place. After the move, those players will be in similar position to the NA players on EU servers: they're stuck with the lag while there's a better option available. But NA (and other) players are given the option to move for free, while the EU players aren't. There is no sensible reason to refuse this request.
