Once I had a healer that didn't think we could beat the last boss in a leveling dungeon after a wipe he says, afk watching family guy. So yea at that point have to get someone else.

Child whines and cries doesn't want nasty vegetables. Wants that ice cream and watch cartoons. Parent goes the easy route and gives them ice cream and cartoons, or goes through a little suffering themselves to teach the kid that no it is not okay to throw tantrums, that no, everything is not going to be the way you want, and that in doing so takes away from what the parent really wants to do?
To me, this all sounds like the same thing.

although a parent most likely wont be a dick and throw a tantrum back which is exactly what these ppl who say "take the penalty" pretty much doChild whines and cries doesn't want nasty vegetables. There's no equivalent to vegetables in the analogy though. It's just give ice cream or withhold ice cream. When this shit happens there's no lesson learned or anything gained by being withholding.Child whines and cries doesn't want nasty vegetables. Wants that ice cream and watch cartoons. Well, there may be a lesson learned if reports are made, and GMs hand out a temp ban due to disruptive behavior when these "Dismiss me" players hold the rest of the party hostage by not doing their job. If that happened enough, word would get around that FF is not the place for that type of behavior, and that's a good thing.
All these players want is a free ticket out of the dungeon without a penalty, so that they can queue up immediately for another one and impose upon the next group and repeat the process. As soon as something that they don't want to deal with happens, they'll just demand a Dismiss again.
well maybe you would all be happy if ppl just got thrown in a digital prison or auto-logged and locked out of the game for a set amount of time because ppl dont want to play with you for whatever reason. maybe and hopefully if im in a party where the other members refuse to kick someone reports can be made for impeding my progress instead of finding a replacement
Maybe. But none of those things really necessitate withholding a kick. You can kick em and then report.Well, there may be a lesson learned if reports are made, and GMs hand out a temp ban due to disruptive behavior when these "Dismiss me" players hold the rest of the party hostage by not doing their job. Because we're all playing a game to deal with stuff we don't want to deal with, makes a lot of sense. Maybe the other party members shouldn't make a player's experience "something they don't want to deal with" in the first place.
They aren't forced to stay. They can leave at any time and take the penalty. Disconnecting yourself to dodge the penalty doesn't achieve much either since being unable to play at all is worse than just leaving and being blocked from the DF for a few minutes. The penalty is there to discourage precisely these kinds of behaviour. If a player joins a group and finds they weren't prepared for it then they have wasted their group's time. The penalty will make them think twice about joining a group unprepared in future. There is EVERY reason to ask. Who is hurt by it? The group that has to open a menu and press a button? If no one wants to do it, the kick won't happen. Do you have some desire to see people punished in some way for leaving content? They could pull their net cable/turn off their wi-fi just as easy. No penalty there.
The game works best when everyone is having fun. If someone is feeling overwhelmed or hopeless in content, why attempt to force them to stay? If someone can't handle say, T9 (I know, but its an example), I'd rather they ask for kick. The fact they can then go run Dusk Vigil on another class affects me not at all.
There is also a major reason not to kick someone just because they ask for it: if they get replaced by a troll that you genuinely need to kick you won't be able to do so if it's on cooldown from pity-kicking someone else.
Most of the time the things they 'don't want to deal with' are stupidly unreasonable and beyond the party's control. These players are simply being lazy or impatient.

Part of the point, the kid learns this lesson. Throw a fit, get what you want. Or, throw a fit and find out that doesn't work. Either way lesson learned. People have been taught that demanding kicks usually gets them what they want. So they keep doing it. Kid wants ice cream, throws a fit. Player wants kick throws a fit. Equivalent to me.
