    Pretty much. Can you imagine D2 without RNG? Its the thrill of getting that super rare items that kept people playing that game for more than 10 years. Same for older mmos like RO, rose, maple and even ffXI. It was Wow that started the whole quest tracker and progress log thing that seriously made the genre feel like a grind. Kill 10 of this, kill 10 of that, collect reward, profit. For me, having a progress tracker and knowing how much more I have to do to complete my objective feels awfully like a job to me. At least for rng, you never know whats going to happen.

    And btw, the grandfather of rpg is the D&D system, which again was used in highly popular games like Baldur's gate 1/2 and Neverwinter Night 1/2. If you don't think even a modicum of rng should exist in ffxiv, then I question why you are playing an MMORPG.
