The fact s that there are many things to do, so you waste your time grinding fates instead of farming dungeons for your weekly CAP, or instead of doing the new coil, and the other contents. Why? For Boring fates ? There si nothing fun, its just a Matter of luck. So you risk to be blocked for weeks in the quest even if you do fates everyday for hours.

NA players took it a different direction and saw it as, "These are the new relics, therefore the best weapons, therefore, I need to do this now, oh this is taking awhile, I'm mad." Seriously, just take a step back and look at your choices before jumping to conclusions.
You really do not understand the concept of tangible progression.

The metric f-ton of myth you need after the FATE farming does not bother me. Every run I do brings me closer to my goal. I know how much I will get for each run/time spent. FATE farming however is all RNG. Its not "I am going to do 6 FATE's and get XXX atma." It is "I am going to spend an unknown amount of time and get a unknown amount of atma." Could spend a hour and get 3. Could spend 12 hours and get 3. This is what is BS. You can not calculate how much time it will take to get to your goal.

At the risk of invoking he-who-shall-not-be-named, I think the posters in this thread need a little balance.

After a single, solitary day, everyone and their grandmother are complaining about how utterly impossible, time-consuming, and punishing the relic quest is. o_O Goodness people, you act as though you all have somewhere to be, while posting on an MMO forum.

It was meant to be a grind. Some players wanted grinds for a continually upgradeable, perpetually useful weapon, and they got it. Quit complaining, and set to work on something else if it doesn't suit your fancy.

I mean, really, at a certain point, the bellyaching must come to an end.

At least that is fair, bland grind for everyone. I wouldn't have much fun with that grind, but at least I would know when I'm done rather than hope and pray the RNG gods favor me.

Unlike Katniss, the odds are never in my favor.
It all evens out. One person may get one item in 20 min, and the. Spend the next 5 hours on their next item. What is unfair about complete random number games generated by an unmunipulated generator?

And then, when Dev Team acquiesced on this particular topic, and since Zodiac was meant to be a grind, the required amount of items/tokens/souls/what have you would be set very high to keep the timesink aspect, at which point, no one would be lucky at all, and everyone would be slugging away for weeks/months. People would complain and demand that the threshold be set lower, to a point where everyone felt "comfortable", except that "comfort" with regards to a drops system is a highly relative concept, and most everyone should still be unhappy...

O_o Or... it could be done as it is, with some RNG on an event that is not at all rare, and some folks might finish a little early due to luck with the dice.

I like token systems as much as anyone; I felt that Abyssea was the best thing to happen to FFXI since... well, ever. However, the token system is really not required when you have a goal that is literally all over the place at every moment of the day.

FATEs are frequent to the point of constancy. RNG at that point is perhaps annoying at times but not brutal.

RNG on something you can only do once a week; that is brutal.

Because it's irrelevant. This was designed to be the "casual level of skill" (note I didn't say casual level of time) option. It wasn't meant to be difficult, it was meant to be time consuming. There are more difficult options that will result in a "faster" reward, time-wise (i.e. Beating Leviathan, if you do it perfectly, will only take about 10-20 minutes, or w/e).

If you don't like the option you made your goal, change your goal. Go for Masterworks instead, as it also is based on Tomestone requirements, which is what you said you can handle.

I would not want the dev's to get rid of or change this option of play. It works very well for how I play.

Stop limiting your thinking into Anima is the only option.

And you sir fail to understand the concept of law of large numbers. I'm not going to explain that here. Are there going to be people who are SUPER UNLUCKY and never see a drop after 1 week of farming? Yes, but these are anomalies and outliers if you will, and in no means represent the large majority of the playerbase, who in all probability will take a fairly equal median time to farm the items across the board. Btw, I posted before that it takes 300 dungeon runs to get enough tomes for the second part of the quest. I will bet every last penny that I will get all 12 atmas faster than I can farm 300 dungeons.

And also, is it that fun to know every single thing before it happens, whether in game or in life? I prefer my life with a bit of spice and excitement and not knowing some things actually makes it more interesting for me, imo.

People are just mad because this quest requires them to put forth a little bit of effort. They can't hand 1mil Gil to a group of 7 to buy their weapons in this case. This quest is not for everyone. It's for the ones that want this type of game progression. The players that want to be carried can still be carried and get instant gratification by killing their primals etc.

I'm sorry but complaining about this quest isn't going to make this game better when this is exactly the type of content a lot people were asking for. Remember all those "I want xiv to be more like XI". SE is listening and trying to cater to everyone...don't like this part of the game do a different part.

This isn't a mandatory quest to stay current on gear, just an option.

How can you call this a "casual" option? Casual players usually have a limited amount of time to play. They would like to see progress in that limited time. RNG is in complete defiance to that.

And you sir must like to gamble a lot. I sure don't. I like to plan out a set goal with a calculable end. Not bashing my head against the wall non stop and just hope a gold coin falls from it.

All well it does not matter. SE will not listen to its player base (in how they HATE FATE's). No amount of reasoning will change their mind and problems like this will just fade away in frustration.

Kind of like the lag issues this game still suffers from.
