It's not the same thing, I'm not constantly hitting one button and by constantly I mean every millisecond. The problem is that XIV tried to be a turn-based/action game and it just didn't turn out well. In the older games the battle pace was set by the ATB bar, my character turns came at different times, so it wasn't like I was constantly hitting one button. If anything the auto-attack system will make it more similar to the original games.
True strike my friend AA i just an invisible ATB gauge that you can you do much with than the spam fest. Your char can go for haste builds -delay builds they can make weapons feel different too cause the old system no matter what weapon i used the only thing that slowed down my attacks was the animation and the stamina gauge, i always hated the fact that my mrd can swing just as fast as my pug...

First, how can you compare a TURN BASED RPG to a REAL TIME RPG (meaning that monster in IV isn't going to attack until all your characters have had a chance to input a command versus that monster in XIV is going to rape you regardless if you tell your character to attack or not)
Oh they would do rape you if you didn't took action, some ff's had an option switchable from "wait" when they waited for you to take action to "something i don't remember the name now" where they attacked you almost all the time. But even without those two, it's still got the same good ol' feeling ^^

In my entire FFXIV play life i didnt have a situation i needed to press button on one skill all the time.
It looked more like *Press* > CHange skill > after couple seconds *Press* > and so one.

Btw. about atp bar, the first battle system in this game in alpha ware more into that manner... but people decided that the battle is so slow so they started to change and current battle came out.

Anyway yeah, they should make it turn based from all the start ^^
To be fair the alpha battle system was slow, the upcoming battle system is MUCH faster than the alpha one. I'm not entirely pro-auto-attack but if it's going to be in the game just make it faster than XI and so far it looks that way.

It's not a PLAN unless it's stated explicitly, not generally.
Square posted the release of the patch would be at earliest mid-June meaning they had intentions on releasing it mid-June if all went well. There appears to be something with the development team that DELAYed the mid-June release. Their use of the phrase "at earliest" was used as a simple way of not promising anything like Yoshida has said he does not like to do in earlier letters. He was most likely aware that there could be a DELAY in development so he stated at earliest mid-June. Therefore, the mid-June release date of it was DELAYed to a later date, specifically two weeks from it.

I agree with you that it is frustrating to play a game that you want so badly to enjoy but to be endlessly bored in. I get it, believe me. But their are some statement you make that I disagree with.

1st) The team has changed. I know a lot of people say this is a common excuse, but it is valid. Yoshi and his team are going back and not only adding their own spin on the game, but going back and redesigning the work that was done by Tanaka's team (who, by the way, were the team that had experience from FFXI). These take time. It's easy for the community to speculate on how much time we THINK it should take, but it is going to take as long as it is going to take. Programming is only a portion of the game development cycle.

2nd) I don't think the team gets enough credit for what they have accomplished. They completely changed the SP system into a system that makes the leveling process easier to stomach. They added a slew of mid range NMs and gear. And the gear that was added is awesome, some of it almost comparable to the gear crafted from the level 50 NMs that the community spent ages camping and crafting. They have added Quests and Task Boards to break up the monotony of Guildleves. Is it enough? Maybe not, but I can't help but feel that the summer will be the real meat and potatoes of the changes.
Whats funny Monkey is that I have made those exact same statements for the past 6 months since the team change in their defense. And I still feel that each of the things you have said are accurate and totally right. I also completely agree that the changes they have made so far since taking over have been needed and meaningful. The only problem is that people like you and I that have been playing the entire time since release havent really gotten anything new. I look at fixes and changes that should have been in the game already as needed and good overall, but these things arent enhancing my experience in the game just yet. It sucks that those of us that are most loyal to SE are actually recieving the least.

I am sorry if the above post makes it seem as if I am doggin on the new team and new changes because I am def not. They are taking this game where it needs to go at the best pace they can. But showing existing players new content like AF gear, Dungeons, and new things to do that ARENT fixes without a clear idea of when we will get them only makes me feel as if I am being led around by a carrot on a string. This last letter just really took something outa me. Oh well, hopefully I will wake up feeling better about things tomorrow. (I am sure fighting a summer cold isnt helping my mood )

There is nothing specific about saying "Mid-June" or "Early-Mid July". There was no date given, period, hence no plan. You could say that Yoshi HOPED to have the patch done by mid-june, but the fact that he built leeway into his statement shows that it was a proposal at best. Patch 1.17c is PLANNED to go in tomorrow. Patch 1.18 is PROPOSED to go in early-mid June. Something doesn't have to be PLANNED to be delayed.

If anything I am now even more less interested in the game. The battle system improvements are something that is apart of moving in the right direction but heres the bottom line.

Seems like that took way too long for the info we did get.

Like I said, I feel your pain. I'm not going to argue against how you feel, because a feeling is ineffable. I am frustrated too, with the wait. I have no desire to play anything bu PGL and still I have maxed out my MRD and am just piddling around on my THM while I wait. But it is hard to build up that urge to play when I am just doing the same thing over and over again even though I desperately WANT to WANT to play, lol.

Yeah. I'm sure the games code is that simple and doesn't rest on hundreds of variables that will be greatly effected by the inclusion of such a change to the system.
