Square posted the release of the patch would be at earliest mid-June meaning they had intentions on releasing it mid-June if all went well. There appears to be something with the development team that DELAYed the mid-June release. Their use of the phrase "at earliest" was used as a simple way of not promising anything like Yoshida has said he does not like to do in earlier letters. He was most likely aware that there could be a DELAY in development so he stated at earliest mid-June. Therefore, the mid-June release date of it was DELAYed to a later date, specifically two weeks from it.

There is nothing specific about saying "Mid-June" or "Early-Mid July". There was no date given, period, hence no plan. You could say that Yoshi HOPED to have the patch done by mid-june, but the fact that he built leeway into his statement shows that it was a proposal at best. Patch 1.17c is PLANNED to go in tomorrow. Patch 1.18 is PROPOSED to go in early-mid June. Something doesn't have to be PLANNED to be delayed.Square posted the release of the patch would be at earliest mid-June meaning they had intentions on releasing it mid-June if all went well. We can argue semantics all day long until we are blue in the face and still both be right and both be wrong. The fact of the matter is that Yoshi gave us a BEST CASE SCENARIO, but he is not really in a position to give exact details on when something is going to go into the game as he isn't solely responsible for developing the game. He has a dedicated team of programmers and directors and I am sure that he didn't go to each programmer and ask, "So, you can have this done by mid-july, right? I am going to give the community a date of June 21 for patch day! Be ready!" No of course not. He gave us a rough estimate that was being as hopeful as possible, but as work commenced it became clear that there was still a lot to accomplish.
A DELAY can make a project LATE, but for something to be LATE a definite point in time has to be given. Because no definite point in time was given, patch 1.18 is not LATE, even though it is DELAYED. So, TECHNICALLY, you are right, while also being wrong.
We agree to disagree![]()
