    Let me bring a little LOGIC into this conversation.

    Here's the simpleton idiot argument:

    "It's Alpha, so obviously it isn't finished yet"

    Here's my logical response to that unfinished thought process:

    "Exactly. It's Alpha, and it isn't finished yet. Which is exactly why if there is ever a time to give any suggestions or complaints about the quality of animation we are used to, now would be the time to do it."

    The way I see it. Perhaps the physics is turned off for the presentation videos. But again, that crazy logic just keeps nagging at me for some odd reason (damn brain). Why would they present a video marketing to hundreds of potential gamers in various countries and languages with the physics turned off? They are obviously running the game on a decent computer and not the lowest spec one they could find in the office. YoshiP would have mentioned that the physics were turned off at this point anyway. But he hasn't, and this has the community worried. So... just in case they designed it this way permanently (without start/stop animation), let's make sure they hear our voice and let them know we expect nothing less than what we're used to from FFXIV 1.xx if its possible.

    Besides, animation revamping has more to do with battle animations and lag. How would simple moving around the map and a few extra animation cues going to affect battle? Running and battle animations are separate entities and don't affect each other.

    Except you can run during battle which does make the animations a combat consideration. Weapon skill animations and running animations are separate entities and don't affect each other, running animations themselves though are related to battle. They would be entirely separate entities if combat had its own set of completely different running animations though, not an awful fix though it would require more work.

    Seriously? Did you play the first beta, or any beta really? So many people said that about beta(s) and yet so many to all the issues persisted (specially FFXIV's first beta...).

    Certainty Yoshi-P is better, but dont stay silent until its fixed.

    Dont listen to those ignorant and blissful. If you find a problem say it. Just say it constructively - we don't need more asses in the world lol.

    And if someone can cite information about a dev fixing an issue or in (realistic) due time then you have my permission to stay silent (c wut i did thar?).

    Guild Wars 2 has absolutely no problem with start/stop animations and battle. Zero problems. So it is possible to have them in there, just in case you didn't know. I'm not comparing GW2 animation to FFXIV for the record, I'm just saying the mechanics are possible and have recently been done.

    Most games improve from Alpha to release...what did you think that PS3 game you played was untouched from it's Alpha stage?

    Improve yes, but on what? Telling people to be quiet when you don't even "know" the problem will be resolved is foolish. This applies to real life as well...

    Not suggesting SE has to do everyone's suggestions (they can say no - but then you can tell the person they said no).

    In simple and harmless terms this is how floating bushes and trees make it past alpha and beta, everyone shuts up thinking they knew there was an issue and this is just their "testing" phase.

    I will, and I suggest everyone else to, report that damn tree for trolling gravity.

    Alright I did not read the entire thread (stopped at page 6) because it's kind of long-winded and devolved into a discussion on wether the game being in a pre-alpha state in the demonstration means you should worry or not.

    But basically, do you guys KNOW why they implemented the momentum physics? (which are the leaning/windup/winddown when moving)
    It is to mask the lag, you presume that it takes a moment for your character to start moving because of the movement initiation animation, when in reality the animation is there to mask the time it takes between your character moving on-screen and on the server. If there is, presumably, no lag to mask, why have those animations when everything they do is blur wether or not your input actually was registered?
    Let's take the one most difficult problem to solve here: You want the controls to be precise, if you let go of the forward button, you need to stop moving immediately. If you have a stopping momentum, you take a step further ahead, slowing down, when you stop moving.
    You need to stop moving when you let go of the button. You need to take one extra step to play the animation. You only know the player wants to stop moving when he lets go of the button.
    When the hell do you play the animation? Answer that.

    Also to the goober who said that the camera is locked behind your character, be more mindful and pay more attention. Watch the HD presentation video of gamescom, which if I remember right was shown on the second day. After Yoshida has switched over to Dragoon AF, heading down a ramp, he keeps running but turns the camera leftwards sufficiently so that the camera's focused on the character's right shoulder, showing the scenery to his left, while still running without changing direction. Go look it up again.
