I highly doubt ppl wont buy a game cause of it not having realistic movements honestly this thread.....Posting a "OH LOOK it's THIS thread again" pic followed by an amazingly fallacious reply in full caps including the word "WAH" in repetition doesn't constitute as "a counter-argument i need not to ignore in order for this discussion to be constructive"
Here, let me show you what a constructive counter-argument that i can't ignore looks like :
FFXIV, as XI, were, and always intended to be PVE games. PVP was just a nice addition. The majority of their target group focuses on PVE, and in my opinion, ruining one of the best aspects of the game just because it's not convenient for PVP is one of the biggest mistakes they're going to make if this is indeed intentional.
I enjoyed Ballista too, but if i wanted to play a PVP game i would certainly not play XI or XIV.
You don't take steps back on fundamental aspects such as animation to allow something that most of your target group originally didn't asked for, and if you do, at least be serious about it and REALLY incorporate PVP into the game, make open world PVP servers available etc..
Thank you for your constructive criticism on my thread.
Maybe FFXIV 1.0 was not built for PVP but 2.0 is and you don't need open world to have good PvP.

I see what the OP is talking about in these trailers.Final Fantasy XIV Version 1 Alpha Footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRiu49mOKFI

Personally, I'm not worried.
Easing/blending animations is a near requirement of current & next gen games. Once the underlying core systems are tuned up and in place, they will add those finishing touches.
BTW Have you seen the trailer for MGS:Ground Zeros? Awesome gameplay animation in there. Snake's walking-to-crawling movement (@10:00) is just flawless.
Pretty sure it's intentional. Current animations are pleasant to look at, yes, but they don't allow quick maneuvers like strafing, which are necessary for PvP encounters. I assume this is the reason they've decided to make animations more WoW-like.

Yep, so in all actuality it is definitely a downgrade, but anything for PvP I suppose.

Since the announcement for ARR I've been excited about virtually every single thing about it. All of the new features and gameplay sounds like a complete godsend. It felt like it was the best possible thing that could of happened to the game.
Unfortunately, these recent gameplay videos got me very worried. The animation is absolutely atrocious. Of course gameplay is more important, but personally the main thing that has kept me in XIV over the last couple of years (and away from other MMOs) is how beautiful the animations were and how lively my own character felt and the other NPCs felt. I find it strange that as much as I was (and still am for the most part) looking forward to all these gameplay changes, I feel as though the cut down on the animation will make ARR a miserable experience. I can't even play other MMOs now even ones I used to like because of how hooked I am to how the current version of XIV feels... not sure how I'm gonna play this one.
To sum up the gravity of how gamebreaking this is for me, I'd wait another 8+ months to play ARR if it meant redoing the entire animation system.

Pre-Alpha or not, it's still a concern. There's zero sense in attacking people for raising this issue. The animation quality and detail is one of my favourite things about v1.x and I will be very, very sad if something happens to it.
If it is just a pre-alpha problem, and therefore a non-issue? Hurrah, I was worried over nothing; no harm done!
If it is an issue, and not just something not implemented yet because of the development stage, and we didn't raise it? Well, then who'll look the fool for giving in to the bullies telling them to shut up and keep their heads down?
Also: Troll != Person That Doesn't Share Your Opinion.
And on the subject of downgrades as a necessity for PVP and the like? Go play Dark Souls and its ilk. High quality animation and realistic movement limitations are anything but an obstacle to a good PVP experience. They just teach you to keep in mind how you move as you ought any other action.

So far, every other animation is the same...we just haven't seen a transition from standing to moving.Pre-Alpha or not, it's still a concern. This quote alone makes "A Realm Reborn" an upgrade over the current version.Hey guys!
I would like to add some more information to my previous animation post!
In A Realm Reborn, conjuring magic, thaumaturge magic, white magic, black magic, songs, and other categories will all have different casting animations. Also, depending on the type of element, the effect colors will be different as well making it easier to distinguish what type of magic is being cast.
