The issue with this is less in fact pertaining to the use of mods, and more due to the fact they've used a registered trademark on a public billboard, and misrepresenting.

At the time, those outfits weren't publicly available in the game. So a player having them wasn't possible without mods.

Which means yes, that billboard has modded gameplay on it.

I did edit the post once I noticed, and yes it has modified gameplay, my point is that they probably cared far, far more about the use of a registered trademark and less about the fact it used mods, seeing as the Billboard situation was more than 3 years ago.

I feel like many people don't really understand this isn't about SE being in the right.
There will be a new mare sooner or later, so taking it down has no other effect than getting more people mad at SE and Dawntrail, it's just a bad decision, doesn't change anything if it's against the TOS or not.

So we shouldn't do anything to people doing illegal things because there is a lot of them and someone will take the place anyway ?

Let's apply that to real life and you will see how wrong it is.

Just because it's not serious don't make it okay to just say what you said. At best, they should be happy to have been able to do what they did for so long when they were told not to, and also a little blaming themselves to have promoted their "against the TOS behavior" about everywhere, even in the game itself.
And when I'm saying it's not serious, FFXIV is on many list of "game not recommanded for minor" or "online game that isn't safe for minor" and it's not for the few sexual references, the few bikini or slightly sexy gear of the game.

And I'm convinced that the impact will be minimal. The vast majority of Mare users won't stop playing because of that, because the vast majority wasn't using "that much" mods and those who will weren't people active outside their own circles.

And to be honest, it could even be the best move for SE to strike now that the mood of the FFXIV players is at its worst since... probably a very long time and counting on a 8.0 to try to recapture the love of the players.

Because even if 7.2 and 7.3 were more warmly welcomed, mostly the MSQ, only 8.0 can truely make a shift. If 8.0 is a hit, it would be worse to taint it with drama.

And IIRC, it was not just one billboard, but four. You'd have to be quite daft to be this blatant.

Sure, it's an arms race. However, I think there is an accumulated amount of poor decisions on SE's end that would not bring back those players even if it is brought back by whatever means.

I'm just interested to see what is going to happen in the future, if SE will continuously try to chase down new mare like mods or if people just learn from this and be a bit more discreet with the next one. Probably not lmao.
