It's sad because most players who aren't fine with the mediocrity already left so people still playing are fine with the mediocrity honestly and the ones complaining are staying because of friends or the very few things that they actually do OK like raiding and social aspect. Just by natural selection this community is already filled with mostly people with low expectations

Ever hear of a game called Final Fantasy Mystic Quest? This was an FF game Square made specifically to market to "western audiences".

It was incredibly dumbed down and short. The only recallable mechanics were simple puzzles within the areas if you could even call them puzzles. Aside from this game having a story that's been growing over 10 years this has been the direction gameplay wise FF14 has been going and pretty much how they built FF16. The funny thing is that while everyone was outraged at Mystic Quest, western "game journalists" want to throw every award in existence at FF16 while the title's sales tanked in Japan after it's first week. Meanwhile this game continues to lose more of it's identity to appease the small amount of people who claim they have no time to actually play this game because of supposed work, kids, life, etc and feel the need to sit on internet forums for 23 hours a day telling everyone how busy their supposed life is.

Honestly it might be a smart short term strategy really.

If you attract players who have such low standards and no time to play that they would happily fork over $13 to watch a few cutscenes and feel satisfied you can massively cut costs on production

Of course the problem is the long term reputation but by the time SE realizes it will be too late

Well, you aren't wrong - But equally many players won't necessarily understand point #2 unless they were around to complete it at the time - Yes there were tomestone grinds but it wasn't exclusively that, and to a degree only composed a small part of the overall grind, comparative to now where it is most of the grind, with drop rates increased and required amounts decreased, and with unsync etc.,

Clipping shouldn't happen to that degree I would say - I saw it and immediately nope'd out. Ended up farming the Bujin set instead.

Eh, the summoner point is weird, whilst the complexity leaves a lot to be desired, the former iteration wasn't exactly true to the identity of a summoner.

Troll topic, but to the OP's point if you do not like it vote with your wallet. Same goes for everyone against it. From SE PoV this probably just seems like people screaming into the a void, sure they see the complaints but people are still playing, they pay their subs, and engage in the game. What reason do they really have to change their ways?
